thats one of the best guides on the net for a beginner. when you know what youre doing, you can start tweaking. the best forum is hydrogenaudio.org, but itsfairly technical oriented.

man i lost a hard drive a few years back 120g external crashed on me.... i have the damn thing still but dude was gonna charge me like $750 to recovereverything with no guarantee of gettin 100% of it all back.... and like somebody said already... pictures.... man ihad so many pictures on that damn thing iwish i had now

and i still havent learned my lesson, i have a 160g computer a 120g laptop and a 160g external... and i have so much #@$ floating on all of them between Music,TV shows, Pictures, and Porn, i seriously need to go buy a TB hard drive, and put it all on there, and store it somewhere.
i would go nuts if i lost everything again... i literally haev discography's of artists, rare songs freestyles mixtapes etc.... took me too long to get itall back.

I feel your pain, I had over 200 gigs of music I've collected for over 4 years on an EXTERNAL HD and lost it all, heartbreaking. I'm not even close torecovering, only at 27 gigs now. It was kind of a blessing in disguise though because now my library is way better organized.

What does owning an Ipod have anything to do with losing your music because your computer crashes???

When the music gets wiped out from your computer, they'll still be in the iPod, even when you plug it in! Duh!

Obviously....but to my knowledge you cant take music off an ipod and put them back on to a computer. Am I wrong?

^yea you can...dl a program and it'll transfer it back to the cpu, but i have no ipod :-(

you can still try to recover it

just buy another hard drive and reinstall windows on that

then use the the defective hard drive as a storage drive and see if you can open the files

the hard drive might be messed up but there is a chance you can still recover it as long as it can read

if your computer cannot even detect the hard drive then you are out of luck

and to the people who is bragging about their high quality rips, yall act like you have the best speakers and sound card in the world to hear the differencebetween 320kbps and 192

Now I see why the industry is hurting, yall dudes got 20k songs yourself and multiply that by tens of millions of people. Some of yall need to straight go toprison.

hard copies FTW. Always assume your +%+% is going to crash - photos, music and files get put on cds/dvds and stored.

Yes, you can. Just find your hidden folder and your music will be there.

did you get a blinking folder with a question mark when you would try to start your macbook? cause this happend to me once. what i did was buy anew harddrive, reinstalled mac os x, then i took the bad harddrive made it external, then i used diskwarrior to recover my stuff from the bad harddrive.
