Mad Men Season 7 Discussion Thread - Final Episodes - SERIES FINALE

Joan really showed her true colors in that last partners meeting. Getting all excited when she realizes how much cash shes getting, sniping at Don when he tries to speak, getting offended at Ted when hes reluctant to take the deal.

Straight garden tool status. She needs to get punished in the worst way.....preferably by drowning in my cum

She got Joan's job cuz Joan moved up. They're not gonna make Dawn a key cast member in the final season. They're not focusing as much with the ppl int he office other than Don and Peggy. Dawn's job has her doing other stuff. When they cover the partners most of it is outside stuffer anyway. The main office plot has been trying to push Don out so Dawn won't be heavily involved with that. I mean Don will still remember her but overall she's just another secretary he didn't smash.

Dawn would've only had a chance if there a 7th season coming.
i wasnt asking for Dawn to be a main character

Dawns job is the same as Joan's was when she was so vital to the company

i cant remember any other secretary besides peggy who went to Don's house

i mean son was down and out, and she was literally his only friend

we dont even get a scene like "hey thanks dawn for your help getting me back here"

like what was the point of her helping him?

its not even a question of being serious or not

all im asking is what was the point of developing her to the point of a new job, then exapnd on it and have her help don, and then just drop her for the rest of the season?

Don doesn't always show his gratitude like we might expect.. plus it wasn't like the entire episode was a great, big victory lap. They only had that final scene in the office where they decided to take the deal so there was only a short window for a Don/Dawn moment.

They didn't really drop her, either. She helped out Don, was promoted and we saw her deal with juggling her loyalty to Don with the new job.. that's pretty much it. What else do you want? She had a really minor story and she's a minor character in a shortened season.. I've got no problems with it.

im jus sayin i thought they were going somewhere with it but maybe she'll be more prominent in the final season

Looking at it the wrong way bruh. They didn't do those things for her to make any point. All of that was done in service to Don.

Everything was to get Don back to where he is at the midseason finale. He's a main partner again and the deal with Mcann can't be done without him. The whole reason she got Joan's job was partly cuz Joan moved on to accounts but mainly cuz Don's personal life showed up at work, forced the lame to ask for a new secretary, and then after several swaps and some mild racism from Bert, Dawn gets a new job. Her facial expression when she sits down in the office and the phones start ringing says it all.

No more, no less than that.

I doubt it unless Don gets her pregnant.

I still find it kinda weird that Matthew Weiner only chose one character to start having really bad receding hair and asked Vincent to shave the front part of his hair.

Anyone else wonder why Cosgrove hasn't pushed to be a partner? Him, Harry, and Pete seemed to all be around the same level in the beginning. Harry was so close to getting his partnership.

They don't need any more partners and Ken doesn't bring anything special like Harry with his TV knowledge.

They needed Pete's clients when they branched off and started their own agency.. they didn't need Ken as much so they didn't bring him along. I think Ken's happy where he's at. He has his family, he's successful enough, he had that little writing career :lol. .he's not power hungry and career driven like Pete and Harry.

Ken's always been a great minor character.

I need to rewatch this series. The first couple seasons seem like such a long time ago.. the original agency, Don and Betty, Pete was such a little punk, etc. :lol

He only has one eye now though and thought he was going to die when those chevy idiots covered his eyes when he was driving. I'd at least ask for a raise and nude pics of joan.

I did that for Breaking Bad and it was awesome before the last season.. and I think I did that for Mad Men a couple seasons ago.

It would be especially interesting since we're at the end of the decade.. because the earlier years of the 60s were more related to the old-fashioned 50s than the counterculture movement we've seen infiltrate the last few years. That's been one of my favorite things about the series.. their use of history in the stories, attitudes, styles, etc., their attention to detail is insane.

Wow did not know there were majority women writing the show. Had me a little like :eek not cuz it's women in general but just it being a period piece and the rampant womanizing that kinda outnumbers the in depth female character growth.

And yeah, they're not a law firm so no reason to keep making ppl partners. At best they can expect an increase in pay if they show their worth it. If they were a law firm Ken would've been got his partnership :lol Son's been through hell.

He recognized the greatness. He's still a jerk but has toned it down a smidge since moving to the west coast.

Crazy how Pete went from hating Don to being president of the Draper fan club.
His divorce, affair, watching Don do that this whole time, and admitting defeat to Bob Benson really turned him around. Throughout those key things he began to admire Don and then appreciate him. No doubt he began to miss what he could bring during those creative pitches to the clients in meetings.

Not to mention he spent all that time with lame *** Ted.

I don't think Ken wants that responsibility, especially after losing an eye to the Chevy guys. IMO he'd rather remain an associate in order to focus on his writing that he loves so much. Pretty sure his responsibilities increased as he stopped writing.

Also, now that Cooper has passed, does this mean that S&C is ready to hire an African American associate thats not an Administrative Assistant? The timeline perfectly coincides with Lyndon Johnson's push for equality in the work force during the late 60's.
