Man anyone mess with these Credit Score sites?

How much do credit cards from retail stores affect your credit score? I signed up for one from express a few years ago because my friend convinced me that it wasn't an actual credit card 

.  Needless to say, I've never used it on a purchase and I forgot about it until I read this thread. Should I look into closing it or will closing it negatively affect my credit report?

Also, would it look bad to close an open checking account with wells fargo that I never use? My friend's brother opened it for me because I was applying for a credit card, but BofA ended up giving me one so now I don't need the wells fargo account
