MD introducing Bill to Legalize Marijuana

not a smoker but hope it gets serious consideration for people who can enjoy it in the sanctity of their own homes.

doubt it goes anywhere though because there's still many "liberals" still think its some sort of harmful, addicting substance and they think regulating morality is part of their job as legislators.

This is a great thing for our area, and the proceeds go to help stop drug abuse, kind of ironic but money mAkes the world go round

it isn't the liberals that think that. also its been an issue that has had alot of bipartisian support, especially now that CO and WA legalized.

also, MD is surrounded by states that have approved it medically (besides va or wva).

typically liberals are the ones who want legalization, and maryland has historically been one of the most liberal states.

I think this will go far, my problem with marijuana bills is that there is very little public awareness about these bills and they're not voted on by people who find it effective.

a big reason it legalized in WA and CO is because it was put on a presidental ballot (an obama ballot) which brought out voters who want it legalized (not being subtly racist im talking about age groups). CA wasn't legalized because it was a congressional ballot, one that typically doesnt draw a large younger voter turn out ( and really what pot head is voting for representitives)

Serious question. If it were to get legalized what would jobs be able to do? Would they have to curve drug tests around weed

2 separate issues. An employer can still disallow certain behaviors or substances. Just because it is lawful doesn't mean employers have to allow it.

I think the moral issues flew out the window with more casinos and legalization of gay marriage. With Johns Hopkins Hospital being damn near half of Baltimore City now, I expect marijuana legalization soon. also being that Maryland is in a bad financial state right now, marijuana would bring increased revenues.

On the job. Few employees can regulate what substances you use while not at work.I can't imagine a company firing or penalizing you based upon doing something legal as long as its not at the work site.

while i agree with what everyone has said, there is still a huge amount of perceived stigma associated with bud usage that even the most self-described "liberal" law maker has fallen for. i was pointing out the hypocrisy that many delegates/senators display. the propaganda that is put out by the anti-drug lobby is strong and many people bought it. glad too see it changing as the old guard goes away though.

i still dont think legalization will pass the legislature this session. if it was made into a ballot initiative though, i think it has a decent chance like gay marriage.

you have nut jobs like former democratic representative patrick kennedy saying it shouldnt be legalized because he was addicted to it

. you have power hungry former DEA directors saying it shouldnt be legalized simply because it would take out a chunk of the funding for the prison industrial complex that they carried out.

You'd be surprised how many police are not gonna give a rats *** about people smoking in front of them.

It'll no longer be a high priority and police are not about stand around and give people civil tickets all day.

^ I don't know about that. Seems like it'd be a pretty easy stream of revenue for them to not to be slightly pressed about it.

I agree, the individual cop might give no dambs, but when the bosses start talking about meeting quotas, cop might have to give a ****

^

I agree with that. But that goes with any violations that are normally glanced over..
