Mental Health Support Thread Vol. Let’s Help Each Other

My family wants me to seek therapy. Not sure why though.

I've been diagnosed with depression for over 5 years now. I for the most part have been able to cope with it, if I am truly depressed, but I know my mood changes throughout the day. I'm just not 100% positive all the time and I feel like that's normal in life.

I will say I'm lonely. It's just feels like it's me facing the world a day at a time by myself. Not many if any people I can reach out too.

Music is my greatest coping skill and I'm truly grateful for that.

You can't read your post and see why your fam might think that??

Take their word. It doesn't have to be conventional therapy but assess your situation and explore options.

Idk your health care situation, but there are many low/no cost resources to take advantage of, regardless.

Even if you attend therapy once and decide it's not for you...it's worth a shot. The fact that your family said something is a blessing; sometimes our loved ones see things that we can't.

Ultimately I wish the best for you brother 🙏🏽

Update.

I signed up for BetterHelp.

I forgot how I discovered the app but I am currently paying out of pocket weekly for therapy sessions and I guess mainly communication. My therapist seems like a nice lady and has given me some good advice and quotes to live by so far, some I've heard already and some new.

Biggest thing is just to put myself out there, even at work. Never know what could happen as far as a friendship or even more. It's a bit of a learning curve, but I'll get to a point where it's second nature hopefully.

On the flip side, once I revealed to my CC I was attending therapy, she seemed against it. Mainly because I was paying out of pocket. I did go to her first, but she felt I didn't need it and I needed more of a peer support.

So kind of at a crossroads.

Might just boil down to what I truly want out of life/relationships and how to approach it.
