WASHINGTON (AP)More than half of female Marines in boot camp can’t do three pullups, the minimum standard that was supposed to take effect with the new year, prompting the Marine Corps to delay the requirement, part of the process of equalizing physical standards to integrate women into combat jobs. The delay rekindled sharp debate in the military on the question of whether women have the physical strength for some military jobs, as service branches move toward opening thousands of combat roles to them in 2016.

Wow. I don't have an issue with women in the military , but they shouldn't change the requirements for the women who can't. That needs the be the minimum.

This is in Boot camp though. Chances are, prior to Boot camp, most of these chicks performed little to no strenuous exercise, so it's understandable that they'd lag in certain areas/physical requirements relative to their male peers.

If this was a statistic for full fledged marines, then I'd be worried.

Also, post the link to the entire report. I hate when people post things out of context.

"I met one of my dad’s friends who was an old retired admiral or a general or something of that nature when I was in high school. I’ll never forget the rant he gave about women in the military. He said they get all emotional, they would cry when yelled at too much, cry because they missed their boyfriends back home, would expect special treatment, 1 out of 4 would get knocked up. It just doesn’t work."

If a person can't perform the necessary requirements to do a specific job, then they shouldn't be considered for the position. That should be the end of it. Lowering the standards doesn't help, it diminishes the importance of the position. I'm sorry but if I'm depending on my fellow marine to be by my side and he/she doesn't have the qualifications needed I'm not trusting that person. Point blank period, it has nothing to do with sex. That goes for police, fire fighters whatever. Standards are set for a reason.

i do have an issue with females filling in  for jobs in the military that involve killing enemy combatants

This is boot camp though. I'd be suprised if more than 75% of dudes at that point could. I used to work supply at an Army training unit and those dudes were ready to pass out when Drill Sergeant made them hold their rifles over their head, very many couldn't do it. I would expect that phenomen to be even more exaggerated for women since I figure them less likely to have had much previous strength training experience.

Oddly at the gym the other day, I saw a girl do 10 pull ups. I thought that was pretty good since I rarely see girls do that.

Probably edit the title and say it's before BC. That's a big difference, IMO.

I think the average adult male at any point can do 3 pull ups

Man after basic the female Marines are doing more pull ups than me. I swear they are robots afterwards.

I can imagine a conflict where retreat it required:

Dude scales a wall wit his partner behind him. He stops at the top , turns and look down at his partner to help pick her up. She grabs his extended arm and he proceeds to pull her up. He struggles. " Dig deeper!", he yells. "I... I caaannt!"she exclaims. " I cant do pull ups," she wept. "Wha..? Well, why didnt you say that before" he says, as he lets go of her hand and completes a jump to the ground on the other side of the wall.

Probably won't need pull ups when they're sniping dudes from yards away.

The 50% plus are all snipers?

Also, I've read Scout Snipers and Force Recon have the most physically demanding training the Marine Corps has to offer
Nah, the other 25% are in the war room plotting parabolas on computer screen graphs that control the drones.

Sounds like the description of a soldier not a marine.

LOL a country that wins with cowardly acts like dropping bombs and using drones is complaining about women not being able to pull them out of a ditch?

True story the US is the only country that uses explosives in combat

My friend's daughter volunteered for this and made it about 1 week through. Her dad was supportive but ultimately thought that females shouldn't have lower standards. I agree; so much BS talk about equality yet they want different standards.
