A few friends and I decided to go on a weekend road trip down to Duke University over at Durham, NC. One of my friends had to go for an info-session for hisundergraduate admission and I went to inquire about Duke's medical school. I'm looking at many schools right now, and Duke happens to be up on my list.Coming from NYC the drive was about 7 hours.
Coming from a northerner, there is such thing as southern hospitality. I was with two other colored men, walking around North Carolina and there were randompeople walking the streets greeting us and saying hello. When I was trying to find Duke's Medical Center we got lost and we asked this dude who was on thephone. He told us to wait, so we just drove away a little thinking he didn't want to help us. He walks up to our car which we parked a few feet away fromfirst seeing him, and he comes up to us asking us if we needed help. Turns out dude is an attending over at the medical center and went to the medical schoolduring the 60's. He went out of his way and WALKED me over to the med schools admissions office. If I was in NYC no one would've ever walked me over tothe place I was looking for. They'd probably just give me directions and then leave.
Duke is a very beautiful place to go visit, and it's an awesome school. They have tons of amenities for all their students and social life is amazing. ButI don't know if I can go to such a quiet place that's isolated from society, but the gardens and all the quads are very pleasing to be around. Not tomention the women there
I didn't get to take pics of Cameron Indoor, because we were in a rush and had to leave before 5pm. Sorry for some of the blurry pics, my friends camera issort of old and he doesn't have image stabilization on it.
Delaware memorial bridge
This had everyone going. Thought there was only one Bel-Air.
It was dope to see a Panda Express, and a whole bunch of other places
On our way there we saw some dude in a cow costume, and took a pic
This is the very first thing you see right when you enter the Duke campus. It's this circular garden, and it breaks off into several roadways taking you todifferent parts of the campus.
Chapel at Duke
There's 8,000 acres of land at Duke, and 7,000 of them are forest and gardens. There's a few of them here, didn't have time to see everything.
Another Gothic like building.
One of the many mess halls
Duke has a lot of different dorms, and they're all in this huge quad. These were a few of the dorm buildings.
Bill Gates wife Melinda Gates is an alum, and they donate money every year to Duke. This is some state of the art tech building. The Physics building and theengineering building are right next to this one
Pratt school of Engineering
Walking down the quad
Duke medical center/medical school. This was the place I was looking for and couldn't find.
I decided to finally take some pics of the nature
Outside of Duke, there's a lot of different types of places to eat. Living in NYC I haven't ever heard of Bojangles, and take it from me. This is theBEST place for fried chicken.
What kind of NT'er would I be if I didn't show you guys what I was wearing?
Visiting VA, we passed the Phillip Morris factory. They had a tower looking like a cigarette.
Baltimore's skyline
The traffic we had to deal with coming back
Finally made it to D.C.
My duke catalog
My Delaware memorial bridge at night.
Overall, I was very happy with this trip and I plan on visiting many other schools.
University of Chicago, UCLA, UCSF, Stanford, University of Washington, Northwestern are all on my list. So look forward to more pics
BTW....I HIGHLY recommend you guys travel in a hybrid vehicle. We were driving a Honda Civic Hybrid, and it only took us $30 to fill up the entire tank. wedrove a total of 1700 miles and we only filled up 3 times.
