We're all purely speculating but my hunch is that Klay could have played at like 75%-80% tonight, but the Dubs medical staff thought long term, bigger picture and opted for the cautious route sitting him. It was pretty bad/ugly offensively for Golden State in G3. I mean, when Duke's Quinn Cook is your third-best, go-to offensive option in the NBA Finals, you have problems on Kerr's hands. I'm pretty certain Thompson will start G4 on Friday. KD's calf is more iffy, uncertain but again, I'm just guessing believing he'll suit up to even things up at Oracle.
Not the least bit surprised with Siakam attacking and playing well in the first half. He's closer to the good player in G1 than the bad one in G2. Don't think he's a fluke or flash in the pan by any stretch. He's actually only going to keep getting better if he can sustain his three-point shot in the 35%-37% range with higher volume. Like four or five treys per game next season. FVV didn't particularly surprise me either. He's been a dog on defense all series, hounding Steph from near half court. That contested three he hit from the right wing to call game was ridiculous. Think that shot put Toronto up 13 late in the game.
I am however shocked by Danny Green. The dude couldn't miss from downtown tonight. Six threes. If he's gonna shoot like that in G4, it might not matter that Klay is back. Boy was unconscious from deep. There was one point on a broken play that Green threw up a prayer just to beat the shot clock and it somehow went it. You know he was hot at that juncture. Caught the cameras catching him mouthing 'scoreboard' to someone on GSW.
Lowry was $ in G3 as well. We all know about the intangibles and winning basketball plays that don't show up in the box score. Shout-out,
@osh kosh bosh. But he's obviously even more valuable when he steps up as a secondary scorer to help Kawhi. We get Lowry is good at taking charges, etc. But when he's shooting 5-9 from downtown. That's dangerous, man. He did commit a boneheaded foul on Steph on the right wing. A play that Curry wisely drew a three-shot foul on.
The refs were bad both ways. One of the calls that stood out was the offensive foul called on Cook engaged with Lowry. Steph wet a trey right after the whistle. Plus Bogut's tap-in on McKinnie's (I think) missed FT. Those two stick out in my memory but there were definitely some bad calls that went against the Raps too.
Jerebko is unplayable, brodie. There was a possession or two in the first half that Siakam was scoring freely, at will on Jerebko. He looked clumsy on the offensive end also. On the other hand, Bogut was solid in his 22 minutes. Better than advertised defending the PnR in G3. Little rim protection, one block. Finished his easy buckets efficiently on the offensive end. He did miss an easy put-back off a Steph miss in the fourth quarter.
