Chad Johnson on being covered: "It's just impossible,'' Johnson said, with a straight face. "It's not who I'm playing. It can't be done, and I've come to that conclusion. If I had to stop myself, I probably wouldn't be able to do it, either.''

Yes. That was an exciting game. Great play designed by Norman. Congrats to the Eagles. I knew something was going to go wrong with the "way" Evangelista celebrated his last shot.

Even with the refs on their side, UST couldn't complete the upset. Jervy Cruz kept pushing his defenders all day long, yet they never whistled him for any foul. On the other hand, Ateneans were called for numerous dubious offensive fouls while getting blocking fouls on the defensive end.

Also, like what Crux said, it shouldn't have been a backcourt violation on Intal. Anyhow, awesome pass by Escalona to Kramer.

Now Mr. Allan Evangelista, take that and rewind it back. Hero to goat in no time.

One more win. I'm skipping work this thursday. I think most Ateneans in my office are skipping as well.

It's so hard to Love when there's so much to Hate.

The officiating was okay at the start. It only turned sour against Ateneo during the last few minutes. Jervy rarely pushes off, more like his defenders flopping combined with his wide body that only make it look that way. He hardly extends his arms or lowers his shoulders. The times he did, he got called for it.

USTe only stayed in the game bacause of hassle plays. Which is the only thing that got them here in the first place.

I was expecting Ateneo to go to the hack-a-**** during the end game.

I thought those gimme misses by Arao and Kramer would kill them. I was so pissed at Norman for pulling Clifford out of the last play. I wanted him to take the last shot.

Evangelista was a jerk. Thomasians do not act that way. Even before he made thier final shot, he was trying to be the hero and kept on taking shots when he should have given the ball to Jervy. I wish Henry Ong would go down there and whack him on the head!

Jervy never got whistled for ANY offensive foul during the game. Also, he clearly warded off Arao in the last few minutes.

They must have called some other violation against againt UST on those change of possessions then. Jervy's the man and Arao should be in there all the time!!

Too bad Evangelista wanted to do too much. Ah well, never expected this UST team to be in the final 4 anyway, and they are giving Ateneo problems.

I heard that some of my friends camped out the night before... lol
I've changed my sig.

(Here's what I posted at GA.net)
What a great play!! I was there at Araneta watching the game and the atmosphere took the "analysis" out of me. But after watching the vid on youtube...here's what I saw on the last play (hahaha, just an opinion):

- Really great play by coach norman. 2 guys on the top of the key (I forgot who, but the other one was Kramer) and two guys baseline (Intal and someone else...). The one on the right cuts across the key to the left baseline while Intal flashes from the left baseline through the key and goes to the spot vacanted by the first cutter...while getting the down screen from Kramer. To complete the "distraction" the 4th guy cuts from the right baseline across the key, to the spot vacated by Kramer.

- The guy guarding Intal (I couldn't really say who it was...Youtube vids were blurry) got caught on the screen...but instead of switching goes back to his man, which is now being covered by Kramer's defender. Hence, Kramer was open.

- There was in fact, an opportunity to grab the ball, but the defender of the 1st cutter (see above...I think it was Evangelista, correct me if I'm wrong) was not aware of where the ball was and saw it too little, too late.

The great number of deceptions from Coach Norman, putting at least three people who can shoot a jumper from mid-range (and beyond) helped in a big way, and the different cuts across the key towards the backcourt helped cement the idea that they were going to shoot the jumper. Kramer was left alone by the defender because of this.

But what a game!!! Hopefully game 2 will give us a game 3!! Hahahaha!!!

Any comments on the "analysis" (wow...feeling like a sportscaster!!)

Twas very hard to analyze the game amidst all the "Go uste"s and the "one big fight"s!!!! Hahahaha!!! But I was telling my cuz in the 1st half (who was watchin with me)...those free-throw misses by UST will kill them if this goes down the wire. The run the Eagles sparked in the 4th was awesome...and Intal is hands down :pimp:

: even though he had a quiet game.

I so wanna watch game 2 this Thursday!!!!

(I'm a LaSallian, btw. I appreciate and love the way Ateneo played during the season, and I most certainly loved that last play!!! Just had to emphasize: no animosity...lol. Though I would have loved for us to be in the UAAP this season).

i read from another site that ust won the 2nd game, 87-71.

UST won 87-71

From what was said to me, Ateneo came out really flat. In the 2nd half, everytime the Eagles would cut the lead down to 5 or 7, someone from UST would make a clutch basket. Macky Escalona was way off yesterday. Everytime i was sent an update, it seemed like he would be missing key FTs.

JC had 23 and 10 but only shot 9-24 from the field. Doug also had a double double, 14 and 13.

For UST, Ababou dominated. 22 and 9 on 9-11 shooting. Espiritu also came through with BIG triples in the 2nd half. He finished with 10 pts, 3-6 from 3's.

I must admit, i'm quite anxious about game 3. But i have faith in the team. I'm sure Coach Norman will have them prepared and i'm sure JC, Doug, & Macky will leave everything on the court for the last game of their college careers. Remember in 2002, it was a similar situation against DLSU (Won game 1 on a clutch play, got handled in game 2, won game 3 relatively easy). Hopefully, history repeats itself.

My friend also told me that Espiritu of UST might be suspended in game 3 due to 2 unsportmanlike fouls and an ejection. This could be a key development as he is one of the Tigers' key performers in the Finals.

BTW, Ateneo Jrs won the Championship (like they always do :pimp:

).

Congrats to Ken Bono for the MVP award. I wanted JC to win it but i always felt that whoever won between him and Ken is deserving of the award.

Mythical Five was: Jervy Cruz (UST), JC Intal (ADMU), Ken Bono (AdU), Marvin Cruz (UP), Jeff Chan (FEU). No complaints on that one...although you could have made a case for Doug.

There were some other awards but i forgot what they were...i think JC won Gillete Breakout Player or something and Woody Co (UP) won ROY.

That's all. I'll be back to posting after Game 3. I'll go back to doing this research paper now which i wasnt able to do yesterday coz i was too upset with the result.
