New York Yankees Official Thread - RIP Former Manager Petey Rose

And he's starting to hit with a full lineup behind/around him. He was getting the majority of the blame during their skid, but the team as a whole wasn't performing.
ANY major league hitter should be able to hit with a full lineup like the Yankees have. That’s really nothing to be proud of. If you can’t hit within that lineup you shouldn’t be in the league.

Even as Gary has had a horrible season, among catchers:

2nd in HRs (one behind JT)
4th in RBIs (6 behind the lead)
T-7th in Runs (7 behind to be in Top 3)
T-8th in BB (5 behind to get in Top 3)
T-19th in 2B (4 behind to get in Top 3)

He’s 19th in Hits (basically would need to double his hit total to be in top 3)

Gary can have a horrific season and still isn’t far off the pace of top tier offensive catchers.

Last 6 games, he’s hitting .273 with .996 OPS. Just needs to keep whatever adjustments he’s made this past week going.
Compared to how many at bats? You left out OBP and BA arguably very very important categories and how is he ranking defensively? Don’t care about him enough to look.

Some of you talk about Gary like he’s the special kid and Rah Rah every little achievement he does. A major league catcher shouldn’t need a FULL Yankees lineup to hit better than his 130BA a few days ago. Not saying he should Carry the team when Judge and Stanton are out but there is no excuse to play as bad as he does when they are gone.

I know. But what you continue to ignore, is that with a full lineup like the caliber of the one the yanks have, you are protected and pitched to much differently. If in your lineup it was Judge, Sanchez, Stanton, you may pitch around Judge and take a chance on Sanchez because you may not be afforded to pitch around Stanton after him. That's called protection. That is not something new. What you're wanting or expecting to happen, was somewhat replacement level players having career years like they did last year that helped carry us last year. That not realistic.

Except that's exactly what your saying.

So for arguments sake, if Gary was on a team like the Marlins, Mets or any team with really no protection would he still be in the Majors? And protection or not doesn’t excuse you from the **** he swings at. If anything his OBP should be higher from all the garbage pitches he sees when the lineup is thin.

Don't get me wrong, I think he swings at too much stuff out of the zone and should definitely shorten up and change his approach at times. Just think a lot made him the scape goat for their problems. Much better hitter then some give him credit for.

Resting too many people tonight.

I get anxiety watching 27 or 99 run.

Great slide by Gardy
