How about we play each other as different years of the Yankees. So i can play as the 1927 Murderers row against Onewearz and the 1998 yankees.

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- David Ortiz wants players who test positive for steroids to be suspended from baseball for a year instead of the current 50-game penalty.

Taking players to court, though, for cases involving use of the substances before players were subject to penalty is not the way to clean up the game, the Boston Red Sox designated hitter said Monday.

Papi apparently wants a year off from baseball

Also I felt like he was taking a small shot at A-Rod.... making it seem like it's even worse to take roids then what they've already been made out tobe, maybe that's just me though.

Also..

It looks good on the teams part that A-Rod's got support from his teammates with todays conference.

How many actually attending because they are supporting A-Rod and how many are attending by force

cmon now bro...he's on that taco, mango salsa, andbeer diet. he's just plain old fat.

nah...ive said it before...it wouldn't surprise me at this point if he did come up as guilty of taking ped's. you can't trust any of these guysnowadays it seems

i can sorta buy that its all rice and beans wit big sloppy, but he became a helluva hitter once he came to boston. the fact that its so easy for these guys toget ped's in these countries like domincan republic doesn't help his case though. there are guys in DR that take horse steriods to get bigger andfaster. matter of fact i think the stuff arod was on is used for horses. dudes are crazy

yeah no doubt. i do have to throw this in tho, when he came to boston, our hitting coach revamped his swing and approach at the plate. i remember him getting alot of credit in local media for ortiz's success. but yeah...he could have easily done the ped's too.

i don't get why they don't test EVERYONE consistently throughout the season. is it the players union that doesn't allow it? or does MLB just notcare?

Anyways..

I'm glad A-Rod faced the media...Lets put this past him and get on with some spring training..

So where do ya'll stand as far as predictions for how his season is gonna go? Alot of his time in Pinstripes has been built on the fans acceptance andsadly...he's gonna get booooooed more than i'd like to hear this season.

frown.gif
I feel bad for Alex. I honestly believe all he wants is to beliked...i'm glad he owned up to it, but watching him yesterday was horrible.

Cashman sounds like he's full of regret right now.

Alex should sit out that wbc , this just doesnt seem like the time to be away from his team . Work on that team chemistry

To be honest, I can see the guy having either an average-type year or a less likely below average type year.

If he starts cranking out HRs like its nothing, then it'll cause a $!-storm. If he has a Melky/Cano year, it'll cause everyone to boo him saying heshoulda stayed on the juice

I think he's just gonna go out there and play baseball. I see him with a 35HR, 110RBI season. A little down from his career average, but whatever.

And IMO, I don't think the fans are gonna be on him. If anything, I think this year, he's going to hear alot more cheers than jeers. But then again, its NY. People are ruthless.

I'll be pulling for him though.
Henry believes cap would garner support
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Boston Red Sox owner John Henry is renewing his call for a baseball salary cap.

Henry said Wednesday he thinks all owners would support an "enlightened" salary cap to improve competitive balance and that players might agree. He did not give details.

Henry's call came Wednesday at spring training after the New York Yankees signed three free agents for a total of $423.5 million during the offseason. The Red Sox gave out much shorter and cheaper deals.

Exactly five years earlier, Henry called for a salary cap when the Yankees obtained Alex Rodriguez in a trade with Texas after the Red Sox failed to complete a trade for him.

At that time, he advocated a cap to deal with a team that he said has far more resources than any other team.

Joe Girardi said that Hideki Matsui will not play any outfield in spring training because of his knees. He also conceded that once the season starts, Matsui would only play the outfield in an emergency. They want him working on getting knees healthy enough to run the bases. I guess now we know why Xavier Nady and Nick Swisher are still on the team.
· I asked Girardi what young pitchers have caught his eye. He mentioned Christian Garcia and Eric Hacker. He also loves him some Andrew Brackman. "The Triple-A and Double-A staffs are going to be very good," he said. "We have some great arms."

· Derek Jeter talked for a long time about A-Rod and the game's drug issues. I'll post the audio later. But in summation: He's disappointed in Alex but believes he is sorry for what he did. Jeter also is angry at the time he played being known as the "Steroids Era" because everybody didn't do it. He wishes that he had spoken up to the union years ago but its too late to go back and correct that.

You can certainly understand Jeter's frustration. He doesn't want his accomplishments overshadowed by what the cheaters were doing.

· Jorge Posada had something to do with his kids yesterday, that's why he left the press conference.

· From what I could tell, A-Rod received a warm ovation from the fans, although one guy in the stands yelled, "Tell them the truth next time!" I followed him around all day (as did most of us) to try and gauge the reaction.

A-Rod did not grant any interviews today. People were at his locker after the workout but he walked past. "Talk tomorrow, guys," he said.

· Damaso Marte has stiff hamstrings. Nothing serious.

· Francisco Cervelli (illness) is expected back on Monday.

· There will be no intrasquad game this year because of the games starting on Feb. 25.

Those are the highlights. Teixeira signed a lot of autographs and bantered a lot with fans, as did Swisher. They seem like good guys. Swish is a big Ohio State football fan and was thrilled to learn that Triple-A conditioning coach Lee Tressel is Jim Tressel's nephew.

· Shelley Duncan and I talked about our iPhones and when he left, he punched me in the shoulder. It still hurts. If he tries that again it's go time.
