Video: Police Brutalize Defenseless Man at Aliya
*****121014-beatdown-vid.jpg

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — On Monday evening, October 8, 2012, police were called about a man who was sleeping in the lounge of the Aliya Institute on East New York Ave. The caller may have mistakenly believed that the homeless man, Ehud H. Halevi, was loitering on the center’s property without permission.

Aliya (Alternative Learning Institute for Young Adults) is a synagogue and outreach center for troubled youth in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Two officers from the 71st precinct, one male and one female, arrived and woke the man. Confused as to why he was being accosted by police, the man refused the officers’ attempts to escort him outside, insisting that he had permission to be there and asking that they allow him to prove it.

His pleas fell on deaf ears, and they proceeded to place him under arrest.

When he resisted arrest, the male officer flew into a rage and began to beat the defenseless man. As can be seen in the video below, the officer assumed a boxing stance and then lurched towards his victim, pummeling him from all sides.

Over the next couple of minutes the man is also pepper-sprayed and beaten with a truncheon by the female officer, all while posing no threat to the officers’ well-being whatsoever.

After a good two minutes of sadistic thrashing, the officers are joined by a squadron of their peers, and successfully put him in handcuffs and under arrest.

A source confirmed with CrownHeights.info that the man had full permission to be there, and had been living there for a month without any trouble. It is unknown who called the police or why.

Adding insult to injury, the man is being charged with assault on a police officer(!) - a felony - which can bring a sentence of 5 years in prison upon conviction.

He is also facing four Misdemeanor charges and four violations, including trespassing, resisting arrest and harassment.

He has been released on bail.

Aliya declined to comment on the matter in any official capacity.

Who cares what color he is. :rolleyes
cuz if he's white, he'll get more media attention.

The biggest media prize that gets some act right in the guilty party if its a teen aged white girl...

The lowest is an elderly black man...

That's why I asked ...

Yay, race has made its way into the thread already. :smh:

That was disgusting though, WAY too excessive. If two cops haven't learned technique to subdue a skinny dude without having to square up and beat him on a bench, they're not good at their job but my guess is this was more fun (and they're still not good at their job).

And...was it really necessary for a total of 13 or 14 cops total to show up?

homeboy raised his hands and resisted arrest sorry but he ****** up. I dislike how the nypd gets down as much as the next man but don't give them a reason to beat your ***

The use of force was a bit excessive but they are making it sound like dude wasn't blatantly resisting arrest.

as soon as the kid pulled his hands back it was over. give the cops a green light and theyll go every time.

its a lose lose for him though. if he doesnt resist he goes to jail for literally nothing if he resists he gets his *** beat.

I'll quickly defend cops when people blindly overreact on here and criticize them regardless of circumstances but even though dude was an idiot for resisting arrest, that was most definitely excessive. Squaring up with dude then beating him on a bench? I don't believe in the "shoot him in the leg instead" crap but two cops should be able to at least try to get him on the ground and get his hands behind his back. The female cop barely even acted before it all went down.

cowards with guns in one hand and the law on their other

So let me guess. If the cops start beating on a civilian, the civilian is in no way allowed to defend him or herself by fighting back?

That cop just started punching dude even though he put his hands behind his back and was backing away.

:smh:

Disgusting savages. It's amazing that they need a room filled with officers to arrest 1 man. This is how our tax dollars are being allocated. I can imagine how many real crimes are being committed during that time throughout the city, yet they are here picking a fight with a homeless man who was granted permission to stay on the premises. Apparently NYC Police department doesn't give a damn on the illegalities that it's officers commit. I bet you this officer will be back on streets (if not already) violating more peoples rights and happy about it. This police brutality on the citizens of NY is becoming like a special menu to the police officers. They just pick and choose who they want to violate at any time. And the special on said menu is the homeless and the minorities. It is becoming so frequent that we can sit back and wait for another video to be released of police misconduct throughout the city. I can almost guarantee that we will have 1 or more to come by Christmas season for our holiday present. Sickening :smh:

The cop must've had a bad day, so he took his frustations out on the homeless man.
