Ref looked like he was looking to make that call but i dunno, centers do take a beating on ST out there so i wouldnt be shocked by a rule change

Started last year or maybe the year before. It's part of the "safety" of the players, guys that only snap and have their heads down can't be nailed or rammed like the old days. You must avoid the middle when trying to block a kick, or at least avoid the center. You can split the gaps, but that's it.

Same spirit as you can't jump on another player to block a kick, or the deformation of the wedge, etc. Small wrinkles to protect as many players as they can.
