NFL Discussion Thread - Hall of Fame Game: August 3rd

Question for Pats fan, or anyone else who knows. I've always been in the minority as an outsider being a fan and having respect for Boston sports making them my go to behind my hometown squads. The Pats specifically though cause I've always seen them as the Packers of the AFC. Both have QB's who've mastered the system. Both are organizations who run a tight ship that have a no bs policy w/ hard ***, business only coaches like McCarthy and Belichick. Although i find belichik far more entertaining. Speaking of which, great at controlling the media. Excel at drafting and developing making everyone replaceable. It works and they win. Rcently i was also thinking about how neither are in the city and have the big city name, Green Bay and New England. I know New England plays in Foxborough, so my question is do they play smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood like Green Bay? I'm talking like suburb with houses that have yards and driveways surrounding the stadium. I see that Foxbourough has a population of 16k which is half the size of the suburb I grew up in and way smaller than GB so I assume its the same as Lambeau?

If so are they only 2 teams of their kind? Maybe Buffalo. I know that's a decent sized city, probably around the same size as Green Bay, but when I picture their stadium it seems to be in a smaller setting so I was thinking its possible they also play in a small neighborhood.

Well Lambeau has a cheap chain link fence around the parking lot that literally separates it from people's back yards. So if MetLife is 5/10 minutes (walking?) I'd say its very similar but not to the same extent as Lambeau.

Metlife isn't that close to homes really... Not like Lambeau.

There's a couple hotels across the highway from Metlife... Takes about 7 minutes to run there dead sprint because your friends sister didn't bring the tickets and now you gotta go to the gawd damn hotel lobby to print them out....

Interesting you say that, because actually idk how much longer it will be like this. I have season tickets, the Milwaukee package, so i go every year. I park in this guys yard every year because he's a buddy of my dads. He's got younger children and takes the parking money every year and puts it toward his kids college. Last year he tells me this is gonna be the last year we can park there. I say why? He said Ted Thompson called (not really) and wanted to buy my house. Huh? Well the Packers have always been expanding and are continuing to do so. He told me the Packers bought a few acres worth of land west of the stadium. All of that land is a neighborhood with houses. So I say wow that's crazy, you don't need to give me numbers but did the Packers give you a fair price? He said more than fair. Not only did they pay way more than the house was valued at but paid for him to live elsewhere while looking for a house because I beleive they needed it by certain period of time. The Packers and the community are as tight knit as can be so I heard there weren't any complaints. The Packers gave an offer no one could turn down to hundreds of homeowners. anyone who lives in that neighborhood would would give anything for the Packers to begin with. So talk about real-estate value. Packers paid for all of his kids education and he's got money in the bank.

I have heard that all of the players, even Rodgers, can walk freely throughout the area without being bothered by the locals. Santana Dotson was a guest on a Milwaukee radio morning talk show once a week and said the players could walk to the grocery store and they would get nothing more than a "hey Aaron good game!" And they would move along. No swarms of people requesting pictures and autographs holding them back from their daily routine. That's how close the packer community is in Green Bay. So if Rodgers walked into someone's house it would probably be like "holy ****! How's it goin? Stay for dinner you need to eat up for the upcoming game.

This is why Charles Woodson ate his words about not wanting to be in Green Bay. He said he soon realized its unlike anywhere else, there's nothing to do other than focus on football and because of this he never wanted to leave. It's the type of place that attracts only players who want to focus on football.

The problem wasn't neccessarily the 9 in the box because AP has beat that before, but everytime they ran the ball it was in tight sets and condensed formations so it was an obvious run. When the team throws 50-something times and the runs are easy to recognize, it makes the entire offense useless and puts AP and Freeman in a bad position.

I felt that game was well within reach into the second half and even though Ponder isn't the answer, Freeman clearly wasn't ready. See if something gets sparked with Ponder and put Freeman in again when he's more prepared. I don't think an entire season should be thrown away just because they can't find a definitive answer to their QB conundrum. Ya know? At this point the message is sent to the players that winning isn't the priority. That's toxic.

If they are going with Freeman I don't think they shoulda pulled him. You gotta let him work through it. My Giants have been garbage this year, I don't think anybody thought he would play that bad against a winless team. I think they wanted to use last night to get him ready for Green Bay.

I'm really not trying to discriminate against a bitter rival... but objectively the Packers/Patriots in the 2000s and McCarthy/Belichick eras aren't alike.

One has been to 5 Super Bowls in the last 12 years, the other has been to 1 in the last 17.

One has the QB guaranteeing guys don't take steroids when they do and had the most publicized breakup with a QB ever (I mean, really... we even were made aware that they had pizza to eat in their "productive" meeting days before the trade to New York). The other team cuts guys with simplicity and even has boisterous guys like Chad Johnson not talking **** after clearly not being wanted back.

I mean yeah they both have great QBs, but that could apply to the Saints and Broncos then. As much as I praise Aaron Rodgers he needs to get more hardware before being dubbed "similar" to TB12/Captain Cool. Unfortunately a players legacy can be defined by the players a GM puts around him. As of today Ted Thompson is failing to fall on the positive side of that definition.

Work through what though? They couldn't make adjustments because he hasn't grasped enough of the offense. It was all a disaster. Ponder gave them a better chance to win that game. The future will take care of itself, but that doesn't mean you have to throw away the present.. To win that game, they had to pull Freeman.

A win last night and they're 2-4. Not nearly the end of the world when both the Bears and Lions are 4-3.
