NFL Discussion Thread: Pats win SB XLIX. Offseason begins

The Patriots have until today to decide on Browner's team option for the 2015 season. However, the Patriots would like to restructure the contract and have allowed Browner to explore his value around the league, according to another team source.

If the Patriots exercise Browner's option, he would count $4.8 million against the cap, but he would also earn a $2 million roster bonus tomorrow. If they decline the option, they would save $4.8 million against the cap without any dead money because Browner didn't receive a signing bonus last year.

Browner's value on the open market might actually approach $7 million to $8 million per year, according to the source, because Byron Maxwell  ($63 million over six years, according to reports), Brandon Flowers  ($36 million over four years, according to reports) and Kareem Jackson  ($34 million over four years, according to reports) have shaped the cornerback market in the last couple days.

Therefore, the Patriots have a tricky decision to make. If they need the immediate cap room, they'll release Browner today, but re-signing him would be tricky. If they want to keep Browner, they can simply pick up his option and keep him around for below-market money for another season. But if they want to keep Browner and knock down his cap hit, an extension might be more difficult because his market is very player-friendly.

Let it happen. It's only right.

No idea why they wouldn't pick up Browner's option. That's a no brainer. Would love to see the Giants make a move for him.

supposedly andre johnson wants to play with a top tier qb , DEFINITELY not seattle, not philly, no way the pats can afford him. he has to end up in indy right 8o

Wasn't there just talk of AJ's release being granted to him only on condition of not going to Indy? It was posted in here earlier

#******** were interested in #Bears DL Stephen Paea from the beginning. He’s told people that’ll be his destination. They beefed up that DL
