day after the New England Patriots received their Super Bowl rings, it appears a former Patriot is attempting to get rid of another championship ring.
The 2011 AFC Championship ring of linebacker Brandon Spikes, who was recently released by the team after being cited in a hit-and-run accident, recently surfaced on eBay with a listing price of $19,499.
Spikes’ name and number appear on the ring and the auction includes an appraisal that says the 14 karat white gold ring is valued at $18,000. The ring also has nearly 70 “solitaire cut diamonds.”
Spikes was drafted by the Patriots in the second round in 2010 and spent the first four seasons of his career with the team. He then spent the 2014 season with the Buffalo Bills before re-signing with New England in May.
Spikes’ second stint in New England only lasted for a few weeks after his car was found crashed and abandoned on a Massachusetts highway. A few days later, Spikes was cited for speeding, negligent driving, leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in injuries and failing to stay in marked lanes. Police say Spikes crashed into the back of an SUV, inflicting minor injuries to a man, woman and their 12-year-old son.
Spikes will be summonsed to appear in Wrentham District Court at a to-be-determined date.
Whether the selling of the ring is associated with Spikes’ recent legal trouble is unknown
