Both of them were above .500 their first 2 years 🤷🏽‍♂️

them first 2 years was a little while ago at this point

also we aint going factor in that russ had one of the greatest defenses ever early.. and dak had one of the greatest olines ever early

You’re spot on about the pre-draft analysis. It’s been two years though and the narrative has changed. Herbert is god’s gift to football now. The golden boy who can do no wrong. In my opinion, he’s overrated now. But I guess being a Dolphins fan means I’m not entitled to have an opinion on this topic :rolleyes

We’re all just talking about skills and upside

Real talk, I went to Tenn, so I’m heavy on the SEC bias and wear it proudly. After Tebow, I thought Tua was the best college qb I’d ever seen. But it’s a new day and Some of these current qbs are just straight up special (talent/ability wise )

Nobody is really knocking Tua, but the game has changed. The bar has been lifted. Herbert has those A+ traits/abilities, that’s why he gets the golden boy status. Game situations are a whole diff animal so he still has things to prove. He also need to overcome the chargers chargering, unproven head coach (who decided personnel groupings over fresh players), and a crazy division. If he’s legit legit he’ll overcome all of that. If he’s not he’ll become another woulda coulda shoulda.

I sound like a Herbert defender, I’m not, but I just love seeing next level QB play.

*ps* And this could all change on a dime. 10-20 years ago, the ideal template for a wr was 6’3 -6’5 that can high point the ball and that has now been disproven. Fast dudes that separate win the day. We’ll see how it goes at qb, but right now… give me the freakish tall, fast, cannon arm athlete and let him figure it out

Eh Tua was surrounded by elite talent in college while at Bama so he looked a lot better in college so I can see why teams were so high on him. His mediocrity doesn’t mean the dolphins were wrong. Herbert wasn’t bad in college but he certainly wasn’t some elite QB that was head and shoulders better than everyone else. He’s your typical white QB from the PAC that scouts think are going to be great but typically fail except he’s doing well.

But if your whole argument about him being overrated is playoff appearances and hardware, do you think Dan Marino is overrated? All those stats and nothing to show for it *shrug*

I'm still annoyed with that play where Herbert could've ran for the first but threw in a way to make everyone say, "oh he's so tough for playing through this" before throwing a laser down the field for a TD...and even worse, people are buying it. :rolleyes

Staley almost broke down into tears and had a TO moment after the game

I think he didn't want to even attempt a slide or get hit again. I don't think he was faking the funk. We are seeing the whole field on TV but he has no idea if someone is behind or beside him ready to crack him again. You know the chiefs D was licking their chops to get him out of the game.

But I’m taking 6’6” 230 with potential, over 6’ 220 who played with 5 first round receivers, and basically 20+ draft picks as teammates.

Plus Tua was always injury prone. Herbert was getting 1st round projections also

I don't think Herbert is overrated. But I damn sure see everyone conveniently misremembering things for certain QB's but not others.

I mean, I know I see an underthrown pass to Mike Williams that cost him a TD. But I didn't see ESPN or the internet doin 2 hour break downs on it.

And I certainly saw the Pick 6 at the goalline, in a tie game, in the 4th Q on the road, that suddenly was someone ELSE'S fault, not the QB.

And while everyone quickly dismissed that, it took me back to the time he threw a pick 6 last year vs a lowly Texans team that cost them a spot in the playoffs. We def MIB'd some folks of that occurrence.

Then we switched to the Oline getting him killed.......cuz, ya know, he the only one ever have Oline issues.

But hey. Some QB's just get treated better by folks. Is what it is.

If you guys WATCH that pick 6, Herbert threw the ball where he saw the receiver & where HE THOUGHT the receiver was going to be. Once the receiver planted his foot inside, herbert threw the ball. The receiver decided to move/slant from his inside position to the outside and obviously the db was waiting on that inside track.

I dont see it as Herbert’s fault but i also dont know the play call or the receiver’s route. Receiver should’ve been subbed out anyway tho

The way Everett was copping pleas on the sideline to Herbert leads me to believe he knows he should have sat on that route instead of moving back outside after planting
