Was wondering at what point does SF start catching heat for trading up and giving so much up for someone they seemingly don't believe in?
How much can you really criticize them at this point? Back-to-back NFCCG appearances and they have their FRPs going forward. Pressure is on Trey now to elevate a proven QB-proof system. The FO already weathered the storm and can chalk it up as a swing and miss if he doesn’t pan out.

With the rookie scale and the fact that first rounders don’t make the type of money that they use to, it’s less of a blow to the organization.

Look how many first round picks are getting their 5th year options declined.

That draft wasn’t a very good draft though. It hasn’t been like that with other draft classes.

with QBs, top guys are making backup QB money until the 5th year and even then the 5th year isn’t a killer and basically used to lower cap hits for 2nd deal

but that’s why you should take multiple shots and not stay married to a guy unless you’re sure sure.. and you can pretty much always get something for guys under contract

but you still need your picks elsewhere.. and still should avoid certain positions at certain spots

What have they won?
A division, multiple playoff games… They are perennial SB contenders even if Trey hasn’t contributed to it. They haven’t reaped any benefits from that trade yet but it hasn’t affected their trajectory whatsoever.

i’m all for guys getting their max…

other than thomas, no premium qb has ever taken a team discount…peyton regularly lead the most paid list…

i love seeing guys get paid, let the owners and gms worry about the potential financial windfall…if their smart, like the chiefs were, they can work it out…
