My brother in law works on the Nike campus. When I went to the employee store the other day I stopped to see him and that's when he told me. He said he's not sure but that was indeed "the word around". I didn't press him for info as he's very serious about work. I just left it at that.

I would rather wait for release day and put in some footwork/homework in securing a pair, rather than to pay almost double retail for an early pair not knowing whether or not they're legit.

Peace of mind knowing they're legit means more to me than securing a pair early.

If I miss out, then I miss out.  There will always be something else in the future.
