Update: Tezuka ended his appearance by saying that an update is planned that will let you play with friends online.
Original: During a Nintendo Treehouse E3 2019 segment, Nintendo’s Takashi Tezuka appeared. He started out by saying that the team will be making some changes to how players are matched with friends. Nothing else was said, but it sounds like you might be able to play with friends online after all.

Naw Smash Ultimate is dope. I managed to drop 75 hours in a month. Unless they added subspace emissary, outside of characters there's nothing really else the game can offer me. I don't see the need for another entry.

I thought about getting the pass but with 70+ characters, I didn't see a need. It'll take a character that I want to drop before I invest in it. Give me some more Final Fantasy representation or Sora from Kingdom Hearts.I have been playing Smash a lot lately and actually copped the pass
