Yeah, micro SDs are only for install game data. You can save game screenshots and recorded game video footage there too.
Game save data is ONLY saved to the internal memory of the Switch, nowhere else. You can transfer that data to another Switch via profile transfer, but it will still only save to the internal memory of that Switch
