I think there used to be a car audio thread but I cant seem to find it.

So I have a 2005 Acura RSX.... Im looking into...

1) Changing the deck
2) Adding a 12" Sub

I have about a $500-600 budget. Whats the best deck and sub I can get for my budget? I have stock speakers as well, would I need to replace them with higher performance ones or will my stock ones be fine?

If you really want some good thumpin, I can recommend you increase your budget a litte more. Good amps are expensive.

son will have a cardboard box as an amp for that budget.

a satisfying system will run you at least twice that.

1. replace all of the stock speakers first.
2. look for a deck. decks aren't as important as the other hardware, but get a nice one.
3. get a nice amp. I'd go with kenwood or alpine, since they're pretty much worldwide and are decent. but there are more specialized brands that you should look into.

Yeah.

For my recommendation, try Alpine products.

Or walk around best buys audio section and blast different subs.

i remember those days. the decks that had an audio-in jack were the best.

"I know a little freak in, in hollywood. sucks, sucks on +%$%. does it, does it real good." BLASTING in the audio section.

they'd get so mad.

Damn I'm looking to drop 600 on a deck by itself. OP go play around on Crutchfield for a little bit and look at what you might like.

I still do it sometimes when strolling through. I hate how they limit the controls so you can't shake the whole store.

I actually already have a Alpine amp left over... Wires are already installed from previous owner. He took the sub tho... The only real installation I need is the deck. I can handle the rest....

So I cant really get a good deck and sub with $500-600? I got amp, wires and 90% installation covered.

No disrespect, I appreciate all the help but my original question is just deck and sub...

I guess I should change my question to how much should I expect to spend for a decent deck and sub? I would like all of it to run off the car battery and not a capacitor...

i always figured one's system is always as strong as it's weakest component, so any piece of equipment should be of good quality

2 cubic feet is small...and yes, it's needed for that sub to work the way it should

this is the correct link to the sub..linked the wrong one

, I had a 12" Kenwood Sub in a ridiculously large encasement (took up 75% of my trunk) but the bass was full and solid. I replaced the stock speakers with pioneers. These were the best ones I could get without running em with an amp. And I replaced the deck with a pioneer one from Circuit City. Altogether cost around $600. (sub, amp and wires were used). It didnt make any car alarms go off but I was pleased with it. I'm really looking for just a decent sound system, nothing too crazy...

I will replace the stock speakers but dont plan on running an amp with em... yet...

with car audio, you're suppose to start @ the front and move your way back.

once u get that sub in, it's gonna sound like crap

some decent fronts and a decent amp won't run much either..maybe an extra 170-200(if that)
