I got a 2013 Chrysler 300. Yesterday the exhaust started to sound really loud. I'm at the dealer now and part of it is cracked. They want to charge me about $1500 for parts and labor.

It's at the rear of the car. Their story was someone tried to steal it.

They're telling me if I don't get the work done from them it'll void out my warranty for the exhaust. They also said they can't fix it, they have to replace it.

Just go to an exhaust shop and they'll weld on replacement, make sure it's stainless steel.

If I do that they're saying I'll void my warranty for the exhaust. I'm thinking about finding the OEM parts online and having another shop do the labor. Any one familiar with how much something like this would cost?

It'll be fine way past the warranty, not like it's the catalytic converter or o2 sensor. I call bs on someone trying to steal it. Don't think it's possible someone can get under the car and have enough force to break it like that. They're trying to get you to pay out the pocket. Time to go to a different dealer, after you get it fix at a mom and pop shop for fraction of the price.

This is why you always cop the 2002 M3 with 125k mileage...rookie :{

but for real you can replace the exhaust yourself pretty easily

2013? Unless it has more than 36K on it that should be covered under warranty. Tell them their story is BS. Raise hell, and talk to a manager. Man up and make demands and they will oblige. If not, call Chrysler corporate.

they Tryna take you on a ride my man. Smh. Buy replacement parts have a guy from round he way do it. My guy charges me 1/3 what the shop charges for everything

This. They saw that 300 emblem and knew you were a sucker.

Unless the would-be thief was swinging a sledge hammer at the undercarriage of your car, no way they cracked it with their bare hands. Look at the pattern of the break; if its clean, they used tools. If its sloppy, it probably broke due to extreme conditions (bad pothole, extreme weather change, etc)

Long story short, you should not be paying anywhere near what they're asking. And check the terms of your contract, they might be lying about the warranty thing. If nothing else, ask them to show you where in the contract it says that.

They're trying to rip you off.

Weld it at an exhaust shop and ''void the warranty''.

Basically did everything, but call up Chrysler corporate. That will be my next step.

I would of been a sucker if I had payed them. :lol I called them on their BS story and told them it made no sense what so ever. Dude said someone was doing it over time it wasn't one night job. I told him it didn't make any sense because I work over night and no one would be consistently lifting up a car that's not theirs and trying to steal cats in daylight where people I know walk by every single day and if they were trying to steal my cats why in the hell were they in the back of the car? I spoke to a manager and he went with the mechanics story as well. Not to mention dude was talking about how he checked the exhaust and there was water in it from driving it to the dealership and he had to do some sort of cleaning that's gonna cost $300, but felt stupid when I told him I had the car towed and I didn't drive it.

just weld a piece together or get flowmasters on it, you're never going to come across exhaust problems unlike its freak accidents like this one.

they're ripping you off, just 'void' the warranty.

.
I would of been a sucker if I had payed them.
laugh.gif

But you did pay them - $133 ....

You just need a weld and it won't void your warranty

Take it to a hood shop or some other exhaust cost about $150

Exhaust is not covered under warranty. You can also get some exhaust tape to wrap around it and it will not be loud and will fix it

What exactly is wrong with it..hard to tell by the pic.

Well, it's separated at one point. They said if it's welded it'll void the warranty. I actually have a extended warranty that covers me for 999,999 miles or for a 1,000 months. That's something I don't want voided however if I could find OEM parts online and have the work done somewhere else save some money it won't void out the warranty because it's OEM parts.

It looks like it broke, this could be manufacturer error or maybe you ran over something and it smacked the exhaust, but it doesn't really look like someone tried to take it. I'd say your best bet is to look for a used exhaust at a junk yard or online for an OEM one. Or go to a different dealer and see what they say.

The exhaust isn't coveted by warranty but you if fix it elsewhere it'll void the warranty ?
Scamming at its finest smh

Extended warranty or not that car comes with a 3yr / 36K bumper to bumper. You're letting them get over on you if they dont replace it under warranty. Like homie above said, its a manufacturer defect or a bum part or maybe you did run over something. Either way the "manager" you spoke to has a manager, and his manager has a manager, all the way to the top of the dealership. And if you still dont get anywhere, which I cant imagine would be the case once you speak with someone educated, call chrysler corporate.
