NT recommend me a laptop

Interesting.  I'd say that it doesn't really matter what OS you choose then.  I usually advise people going into math-oriented majors to get a Windows OS computer because MS Office is much better vs. the Mac OS Office (Excel in particular).  But it seems like you'll be using Word-type programs for school most of the time, so either/any OS is fine.

I'd say you should go to Best Buy, take your time, and test out the computers - see what fits you the best.  Observe the computers' responsiveness, sturdiness, features, price, etc.

Mac Pros are good quality machines from what I've heard (not an expert though, and never owned one).  I don't care too much for the track pad, but a mouse solves that problem.  I personally like Lenovo Thinkpads because they're very sturdy, maintain good responsiveness over time and have Trackpoint (the little mouse button in the middle of the keyboard; Dells and some other computers have similar buttons too); only problem is that battery life sucks after a few months of use.

I also use a Dell Latitude for work, and personally I don't like the quality of the machine (especially in comparison to my Lenovo).  Freezes up a lot for some reason, and the battery isn't better by much.

Cant go wrong with one of these....

trust me the macbook is an exceptional laptop and it beats alot of those intel i3 and i5 havin PCs, the hardware and overall design is also top class so no worries there

I'm still iffy on the Macbooks gonna need to go check them out when I get a chance on how they function, same with the ones in BestBuy and Fry's.

I was looking into the Alienware that mondaynightraw stated and I must say, I'm undecided with the Alienware and MacBook Pro. Upside on the Alienware is that I can build it myself and is less pricey. As for the Macbook it's a whole different OS so it would be interesting to use, but even with the student discount price is still......ouch!

Definitely liking the clean look on the MacBooks tho.

Gonna go check out the stores in a bit. Thank you so much for the responses guys. Kudos to all of you.

Macbooks are kind of overpriced for what you get, the proprietary MAC OS is what apple banks on and can charge a premium for. If you're looking at specs only, similar windows laptops can be had for hundreds of dollars less.

The HP Envys are very solid, and so are the Dell Studio/XPS laptops.

I think that people hear all the horror stories about Vista and think it's like that for every Windows OS.
Never really ran into many problems with Vista myself, but I didn't do much of anything other than browse the internet when I had it.

anyway, alienware does have some nice laptops if you want to do any gaming.

Class of its own? Paying a grand for a 200gb HDD, 2gb of ram, dual 2 core processor is a joke in itself.

Apple is overpriced and its disgusting.
