NT: Sportsbook Thread

Yeah, I can tell from some of you guys bet types, comments, remarks, and now quitting, you obviously had the wrong impression

This is definitely a long term type of thing. Set goals, create a system, bet inside your limits, and you can take home a STEADY flow of $$ at a lower number, rather than risking it all every night of the week for the big lick.

Like I said, I'm still playing on the same $20 I originally deposited in October. Trust me, I didn't rattle that off by doubling $20 into $40 into $80 into $160 and so forth, or by taking the Nets at a +400 hoping to x4

If your book lets, I'd stay between $5-$10 single bets until you get your bank roll somewhere near $200, and even then, going 9-5, 10-4, in a week at $10 a bet will bring in about $50 more than you had the week before, plus you do nothing.

Just my two cents.

i'm not trying to end up like those dudes. i was close to gambling away all my start up cash befre i finally @+!#! slapped myself and decided to be more responsible with my bets. you guys have to manage your bankroll. don't put the same amount of money on an iffy game as you would a 5 homerun bet. that way even if you lose one or two, your strong hits will keep you in the positive at the end of the night.

and stop trying huge parlays every night praying that you'll hit and make it all back

ugh...been having a tough strech...gotta get back on the horse...not too many games today NCAA wise...what yall feelin like?

Utah with a tough comeback last night in OT, play tonight against a Hawks team that GAGGED on a lead in Oakland...they'll be better.... I'm going Hawks +5.5

havent checked in here since saturday afternoon but it looks like we had some casualties over the weekend. Luckily I was preoccupied with UFC so I didnt blow my roll on Olympics or CBB. I'm kickin myself in the butt for my last minute flip flop on the Velasquez/Nogueira fight (stupid pinched nerve rumor) otherwise I woulda had a pretty decent return. Luckily I played the Wandy Silva line heavy with mitigated most of my losses for the event.

BJ, any good plays today?

Tonights play...

5 team parlay:
Bulls -2
Knicks -1.5
Hawks +5
Bobcats -3
Oklahoma +21.5

Really hoping OK can keep it close, and Hawks rebound with a good game against a Jazz team coming off an emotionally draining game.

When Bodog finally gets around to putting up the ML's for tonight's games, I'm going to add WVU-2 and ML Mavs to make a 7 team. Hoping for a big night $$$

Hopefully this week goes well. I'll be looking at some plays when work dies down a little.

Got App St. at -4, UCONN ML (just mainly cause I wanna see them win, not sure if they will),
4 point teaser with Wizards +6, Jazz -1, and Mavs -5
Thinking about parlaying the Over in the Davidson game and the under in the UCONN game

I got App St tonight (-4) and Bulls (-2), just straight bets.

I'm staying away from the WVU/UConn game... I don't know what UConn team is is gonna show up.

NYK, ATL, CHA, DAL ... all teased 4 points.

small bet, $10 to win $30. I didn't feel like any single game was a good bet, so a small tease I think moves the lines adequately in my favor to cover all.

i do this more as a hobby than as a secondary source of income.  Whether its $1 or $1,000 I still get a rush from watching an event that I bet on, and an even bigger rush from winning.  I can have $5 on a Division I-AA game that I otherwise would not care about and be genuinely interested the entire time.  $5 for 3 hours of entertainment (even if I lose) was worth it.

As far as actual results goes, I probably have a net loss when it comes to CBB, CFB, MLB, and extras (I bet a lot of weird stuff just for fun like Olympics, Canadian Football, that other BS football league, etc...).  I dont really mess with NBA at all, just a personal preference.

The last 2 NFL seasons have also resulted in a net loss for me, but I was gangbusters for a couple of years before that so overall my track record is still not bad.  NFL I follow a lot closer and take a bit more seriously (I track all my bets and results on a spreadsheet).

My bread and butter is still MMA betting.  2010 has gotten off to a slow start, and I am barely below break even for the year so far (which I guess isn't bad, but I had a banner year last year so its tough when I dont get the same returns).

As far as the increments in which I bet, I keep it at a hobby level for the most part.  I try to stay away from parlays but my greed and degenerate nature get the best of me.  I know some of these dudes on NT talk about hitting 4-5-6 team parlays on the regular, but not for me.  I think parlays are a fools bet that play into ones greed.  If I am gonna throw a parlay out there, typically its no more than $10-20.  Same goes for CBB, CFB, and MLB.  Typically I wont have more than $55 on a single game and its pretty much always in the $10-55 range unless its a big time game that I've actually done some research on (bowl games for instance).  NFL and MMA is the only ones where I scale up to make $100+ bets.  MMA in particular cause you often are paying bigger odds on heavy favorites.  It varies event to event but I like to typically have anywhere from $400-2,000 on any given UFC event that my bookie gives me action.

parlay:
WV+UConn over 137.5
Oklahoma +21.5
OK + Kansas under 147
Bulls -2.5

also took a daily high scorer bet with:

Joe Johnson +300
Dirk - even
D. Rose +300
T. McGrady +200
