this one is good, lots of roasty and chocolate notes with the bitterness. its well balanced, and you get a little bit of the alcohol on the back end.

A solid IPA. a good amount of hops, it has a lemony aroma and taste. i want to say lemongrass. and a bit of sweetness. overall its good.

this one is whatever. maybe its because i never tried chai tea or juniper berries. aroma reminded me of tomato for some reason. but i wouldn't pay the 11 bucks for it again.

Pick ups for today! So excited I was able to get my hands on billionaire and doughnut break. Also got the bruery's anniversary sucre, oude tart with cherries, and almanacs blackberry sour.

I also picked up some single cans for the thunder clippers game at the same spot. They usually have superbly fresh beer but this modern times blazing world is at least 5-6 months old. I feel like such a snob right now but it tastes awful and going straight to the drain.

That's a pretty expensive haul there :lol. I not much of a sour beer person but almost picked up some Dog Patch Sour last week to try. Any recs?
Laguniitas is def appreciated :smokin. Still have to make my way up to the brewery one day.
I've only had almanacs pluot sour which was good but I'd take the bruery's sour in the rye over it. It's a lot more sour tart than others I've had. Duchesse de Bourgogne is a good widely available beer if you're just getting into the sour style. I have only gotten oude tarte with cherries during anniversary sales so it's a few months old and the cherry taste is a bit. subdued.

Thanks for the recs. I've only had RR's Supplication and NB's La Folie. I'll try and grab a bottle of the Duchesse de Bourgogne the next time I'm out.

I've had a handful of RR's and the Bruery's sours. I guess I can't appreciate it no matter how much I try. More for you guys.

Kinda pissed at total wine right now. Someone decided to take the canned on label off of 90% of the elevated IPAs. Maybe they saw me scrounging around like a nerd for fresh 4 packs the last times.. I ended up getting mad and just buying 5 of their last remaining 4/27 four packs. It pretty much comes out to $39/case.. Compare that to Heady Topper @ $75 or other beers that are closer to $60, and for me it wasn't really a second thought.

I don't normally do this but I am seeing some great praise on Hoptimum that I decided to try it again. This time at a different Total Wine.. I also found a Wasatch last one in lager ( the label was for their summerbrau (a gabf gold pilsner) so I'm not sure if this is a new one or just relabeled. I also wanted to give Hop Nosh a chance. I always hear people talking about it. I went with an Anderson Valley Summer cream ale ( i had this 3-4 months old. so getting it fresh is nice). I forget the BA score on that one.. Summer Helles New Belgium is given a first chance... I only know the BA score in Hoptimum so this should be a fun solo "drink it because its hot and I need refreshment" sort of drinking sessions.

Sights are still set high on Saturday.. I'm not sure how to go about setting up a 6 beer tasting. HT is recommended to be drank from a can so how can I accomplish that blindly?

^yeah I caught a ton of syrup/alcohol burn like I have never felt before. Enjoy by was hella smooth considering its ABV.

First of Five tastings tonight (started with a elevated to cleanse/open my palette)

1/ Seasonal New Belgium Summer Helles 5% lager

I caught a weird sort of toasted breadiness that was hard to pinpoint. It sort of reminded me of my childhood days at a Budweiser brewery tour.. Not that great of memories lol. Quite sweet of a bite but very crisp. That weird breadiness (maybe its the lager yeast at work) kind of killed the vibe. But it definitely had a drinkablilty aspect.. Would likely not buy again 3.5/5. It almost reminds me of a warmed up American Adjunct Lager if that makes sense, if not for a touch better.

Enjoy by October 17th 14. I'm guessing Ba score of 82. Ill see how close I am later

2/ Wasatch Last one in Lager. 5.6%

Similar to summer helles in smell initially. But then I caught none of that nasty toasted flavors. Instead I caught some flowery sweetness. I definitely prefer this subtle flowery presence over a roasted biscuit flavor. Abv is higher and tastes less sweet. Kind of odd

Enjoy by 8/7/14. Ba score guess 87. I like this one quite a bit.

3/ Anderson Valley Summer Solstice.. Cream Ale
a292634d0454d6b6db17210cc862dde5_640x640.jpg

I tried this past its expiration date earlier this past fall. Didn't exactly like it then.. Same today... Odd sort of sweetness coming out of this with no detectable hops. I catch some caramel and then this cream soda like taste kicks in. I've had some cream ales before, and they mostly tried to steer more towards a blonde ale, pilsener, or lager.

Julian Date read 14100.. 100th day of the year 2014. So about April 10th it was bottled. I really want to like these guys but I am constantly disappointed. I want to say BA score is 80.

4/ A SPARK!
Uinta Hop Nosh. I had heard good things about them from casually checking out forums online. Never really gave them a look. I know they have a few other cool looking bottles.

7.3% abv. Enjoy by 9/1/14... Incredibly fresh smelling hoppy beer right here. I catch about 90% pine/10% citrus. Very well balanced. Not too sweet or even malt forward. Medium bodied. Hops have to be about 85-100 IBU. Just damn solid.. I want to hope this is a 90 BA. I'd want to put it closer to 92.

5/ Sierra Nevada Hoptimum.

Smell was much better this time around. None of that musky hops. Mustve been a badly stored bottle (i bought them each at diff. stores) the last time. Still though, the smell is just kind of there as a piney bitter hop prescence. I'm not impressed. Taste, I agree with Based Mod. It's just way too syrup like and unbalanced. Very sweet and still very bitter, which should yield some sort of balance. But I see none. Given it's ABV, I give it a slight rise from before as the smell is solid this time around. But I see it more of 84 BA IPA and worth none of the hype... Tastes are different for everyone I guess.. 2 tries and I am done.. The sad thing is I was gifted a hoptimum tshirt for christmas awhile back.

edit:
BA score rundown
I got pretty close with the 4 I knew nothing about (one had no BA score yet- one last dip. so make that 3). I'm glad to see Hop Nosh rise at 90. I'm also glad I guessed right on the lower tiered options. The biggest difference I am seeing is with Hoptimum. I see it as mid level tier product. Others see it as a head of its class.

Cheers

This is one of my faves of late. High abv (a little over 11%) but very smooth and tasty. Highly recommend it.

Lol worse. I'm trying to sober up before I go to sleep because I have to be up early tomorrow. Already made regretful text, FB messages. Much shame.
