NT, What Beer Do You Drink?

Fedex and UPS must love you all with the number of trades you guys are doing on a regular basis.

Nice teku glass neo. Been looking for one.....even though i have more beer glasses than I can count.

I've been averaging 1-2 trades the past few months :lol. I think once I've tried what I wanted to, I won't be trading as often. Also, one of my buddies just moved to NYC this week so he'll be sending me stuff from there that isn't available here in Cali.

Been meaning to pickup the teku glass for a minute now but couldn't see myself paying that hefty shipping fee so when I saw it at my local spot, I had to pull the trigger.

I don't know if I'd call it "regular," but I definitely went on a large trading spree in the past week.  Got another 4 bottles of Bomb! coming in and then I'm done for awhile.

Awesome pickup on the Double DBA, Neo.  One of my favorite beers ever.

So...yesterday was my birthday so I made my way into Manhattan with some friends.  We hit up an awesome bar/restaurant called The Cannibal. Amazing beer selection and even more amazing food. One of the bartenders was telling me that they sometimes get Hill Farmstead beers on tap :eek .  I definitely blew my load early by loading up on beer, meat, and cheese...but it was so so so worth it.  Would definitely recommend it to anyone in NYC or visiting NYC.  It's on East 29th Street, so it's not too far from Penn Station.

Happy belated man. I'll drink one for you once I'm off the meds haha.

Two Hearted & Founders Porter back and forth. My two go to brews.

Looking forward to being in Mpls in a few weeks to get my Surly on.

I drank a Kono Cocunut Ale today. It was a bit sweet for my liking, but it was a solid brew.

Tried the Lagunitas Night Time. I didn't get a whole lot of hoppiness(????). More roasty than anything else.

Anyone else ever feel burnt out from all this variety and craze? Maybe I'm just catching a cold or something.

Past two days have felt off.

I had my last remaining bottle of founders breakfast stout and felt a touch underwhelmed. Not the same wow factor as just 5-7 months ago. I could barely finish a single elevated Ipa. The Santa Fe imperial java stout tastes just as wow worthy as FBS. UPPER TIER STUFF, both of them. But not quite omg worthy. That was on Friday.

Saturday we brewed up some beer. But had a day from hell. Boil volume was way off so we had to lower og a touch on both recipes as we skimped some wort from one batch to another. That added 1-2 hrs. Then we went to get our wort chiller out and realized we left it with water in it through the winter. BUSTED PIPES. 5 minutes before we needed it. So our wort sat about two hours plus at 200 degrees as it cooled on its own before we decided to buy some ice and throw them in a ice bath, big enough for 22 gallons of liquid is a challenge. We spent an hr or so of that time prior, trying to weld fix the busted portion. No luck. 5 hr day turns into a 9 hr plus day. May the beer gods bless us with a solid fermentation. That's the ultimate key and issue we've had in the past.

I suspect the hop profile will be way off. We basically boiled for 2 hrs. instead of one. Our ivy on the blonde may jump to 40-50 range and Ipa from 65 to near 100. But if it ferments and tastes alright, we can learn from that day in hell. I think I ended up drinking five ounces of beer yesterday. Meanwhile brewing 22. Just one of those days. I got a few initial photos if anyone wants to check them out. Pm me.
Happy father days to the fathers out there ( I'm not one. But I did take my father out for a cold one). Another growler of their "beer" pilsner and elevated. If this stuff doesn't get me back into it, something's seriously wrong.

Hmmm...strange.  I thought it tasted like a black IPA version of Sucks.  Thought the roasted qualities took a backseat to the hops.

Yea, the reviews I've been reading are totally contradicting....saying that there's lots of tropical notes. I got very little of that.

Had to check the bottle date - 151 4. So May 31st, 2014, barely 2 weeks old.

ISO......

I got some beer in the refrigerator since November you think im good?
What's the beer? It definitely didn't "go bad", but certain styles hold up better than others.

Anywho...I've got a couple of reviews for da beasts.

Prairie Bomb!- Been wanting to try this one for a considerable amount of time.  Aroma is mostly coffee, chocolate and some peppers.  Not picking up much vanilla.  Taste kind of bummed me out at first.  I thought it tasted a little medicinal. As it warmed up and I started enjoying it more and more.  The flavor is pretty similar to the aroma.  I'm sure the vanilla is there, it just seems to get lost in the mix with everything else going on.  No booziness whatsoever, which is saying something considering the 13% ABV.  I overhyped it a little in my mind, but I'm glad I stocked up on it.-9.8/10

Prairie Bible Belt- I drank this side by side with Bomb!, so I'm gonna limit this to a simple comparison: same as above, but a thinner mouthfeel with considerably more chocolate on the taste.  Just about the same.  Great stuff.-9.8/10  (Pardon the glassware. The Bomb! was poured into a pint glass and this was the second best glass at the moment. The struggle is real over at my friend's apartment.)

Straight To Ale Monkeynaut-  Given to me as an extra in a trade for some Mexican Cake.  Wasn't too fond of this one.  Poured a copper brown which, when it comes to IPAs, generally signifies I'm gonna have a bad time. This on was no exception.  Tasted funky...almost a butter diacetyl quality, honestly. Some caramel malts and a nominal pine/resin hop presence.  Pretty much a flop, but I'll be damned if I don't like the name and the can. 6.8/10

Westbrook Mexican Cake- Gonna be blunt right off the bat: this one was a game-changer.  Having had Hunahpu, I can say I like this better.  It's just like it, but with less cinnamon and a bit more pepper heat.  I found the cinnamon on Hunahpu to be almost overwhelming, but Westbrook got it right for my taste buds.  I'm no fan of pepper beers for the most part, but the habanero goes so well with this beer.  I finished this about an hour ago, and I haven't rinsed out the glass yet because the smell is too damn good

.  Decided I need more after the first sip. Insane. - 10+/10

I remember having 3 year old coors lights awhile back. Taste didnt change a bit. Watered down "muck" then, and the same 3 yrs later. ( i will attest to coors banquet being not soo bad... LIGHT varieties of already light beers sorta piss me off lol).

Night cap tonight was a first try for me.. Bell's Kalamazoo Stout. Very pronounced roasted malt notes on the smell. Taste is a bit 50/50. Smell wise, it reminded me of a local Malpais Stout with the roasted element. That beer tended to stay highly carbonated, crisp, and finish dry with a nice hop bitterness to subside the 7.5% ABV.

This stuff is labeled as a 6% beer, brewed with brewers licorice. I don't really taste any of that. It does seem to sit on the sweet side. But I am tasting more of a dark fruit taste than anything.... I can't say that this one is just 3 pts. different than Malpais Stout.. MS wins for me. The mouthfeel and blending of flavors just seems a touch off on the Kalamazoo stout.. Definitely one I would not seek out again.

Yeti and Oak aged yeti in the same night coming up later this week, then I attempt a month long hiatus as my doctor said to slow down on the booze...

13% DIPA had me feeling some type of way!

Alcohol was masked nicely, I thoroughly enjoyed the buzz and didn't feel full the way a 13% stout would make me feel.

Had these last night. First was Zombie Dust by 3Floyds. Had a bottled date of 4/30. Aroma was very nice! Got lots of tropical fruits, pineapples and citrus notes. Kinda reminded me of HT. Taste followed the smell. Got some pine, grapefruits and pineapples. Nice hop bitterness throughout, crisp and a clean dry finish. Not sure if I would consider this an APA. Tasted more like an IPA to me. Damn good beer. Definitely worth seeking out! Glad I have a few more haha.

Next was Alpha King. Guess I made it a 3Floyds night :lol. Bottled date of 5/16. Didn't get any tropical fruits in the aroma like ZD but had some nice citrus, piney and caramel notes. Got grapefruits, orange peel and light caramel malts in the taste. Hop presence was there but very mild. What I've noticed with ZD and AK is that they are both crisp, smooth and very balanced. Well crafted brews for sure.
