[COLOR=#red]Being in graduate school I had to take a break from acquiring firearms, but now that I start back working in the summer I'm jumping right back in it.

First order of business is purchasing the Benelli M4 Semi-Auto shotgun with adjustable stock. It's the Gucci of shotties and one can argue overpriced, but no one can argue its badassedness. My Mossberg 930 SPX is 4/5ths as good and much less inexpensive, but it's still not a B-N4.

Second order of business is to acquire a Larue Tactical OBR in 7.62 NATO. It's one of the most accurate semi-auto rifles based off of the AR-10 interpretation. This will be the firearm that will accompany me to GPS Sniper School (one of the best ones). My glass will be the Vortex Razor HD Gen II 4.5x27 magnification with the reticle in the First Focal Plane which allows for range estimation at any magnification level. My old Leupold Mark 4 was second focal plane which means you had to go to full magnification for range estimation. The scope will be on a Larue Tactical quick detqach mount so that I can change over to a red dot when I'm shooting at less distance.

I live in Texas and feral hog hunting is a huge thing. Some places prohibit 5.56 or smaller, so I'll be more than prepared with 7.62 NATO.

What do you guys think of vortex red dots? I need to throw a red dot on my ak. Unless anyone else has experience hitting coyotes on the run at dusk? I think that will work fine. I need it to hold a zero being bounced around but I think any decent red dot can do that.

You could try searching around for group buys of the Vortex or Aimpoints to see if you can get it cheaper. I looked around before I bought mine and found a group buy for the micro series for cheap.

Yes still with the Glock 26. I love the little suckers. But on the other hand they are kind of boring because they don't have a "soul" like a 1911 or even a Sig. Just cold Austrian/German functionality bro.

Probably referring to the customization and character a 1911 has you can really spice it up and make it yours. Where as glocks are disposable in a way

I've had a Springfield xd40 and xd subcompact xd45 for over 10 years now. Thousands of rounds through both. No, issues WHATSOEVER. I have a CCW and I carry both, but of course the subcompact 45 fits a little easier in my IWB holster. These guns are reliable, never failures to fire. I highly recommend the XD series, they are very popular and have great reviews

[COLOR=#red]What's good my D9 brethren? Yeah what I meant by Glocks being soulless is that they are so darn efficient and tool-like that they almost don't have a personality. I'll put it to you this way, with my Sig, my FNP 45 Tactical, my Kimber 1911, and even my Beretta to some extent I would alsways find myself holding them (unloaded of course) and messing around with them even when I wasn't at the range. They just fascinated me. But the Glock...nope just shooting at the range extremely accurately with both hands with no drama...boring!! But real talk I'll never sell my 26s. They are relatively small, a breeze to shoot accurately, and they also accept magazines from their big brothers the Glock 17 and 19, as well as the infamous 33 round Glock OEM magazine.

My roommate has that exact gun. It's a nice gun I shoot it all the time. I wouldn't take it over my shield to carry but it's dope. 20 rounds is nice.

[COLOR=#red]The XD is a great gun in the variety of calibers and sizes/styles (think XD-M) they come in. I personally like how even the subcompact has a tiny rail system on it. Ok so it's another polymer striker fired handgun, so what makes it different? Well some people appreciate the grip safety as added passive safety as well as the Glock-like "double trigger" passive safety. Other things that make the XD liked by many is that it has a natural pointing grip angle not too much unlike the 1911. For some people this is a big deal and it affects their shooting accurately comfortably. To me it's nothing, but some people swear by that concept. Other than that it is reliable, and it can handle +P ammo.

I could not tell you if you'd like it over a Glock, M&P, or an FNS, that would be a personal preference. If it's possible you may want to visit a range that lets you rent firearms and try it out. Also try out the other offerings. I used to be the guy who listened to other people's gun biases when I first started out and from that I thought I would hate Glock...until I tried it out for myself. Pretty much all the polymer striker fired pistols have something to offer...try them out, pick the one you like, or buy them all [/COLOR]

[COLOR=#red]As far as pistol ammo I mess with the Winchester Ranger T. Their expansion is ghastly. Basically repackaged and upgraded Black Talons without the black lubalox finish.

I fly with my pistol (checked in luggage of course) and Jacksonville FL airport has one of the strictest procedures for flying with your piece. Anyway my Ranger Ts weren't in the original packaging so the gate attendant called the Airport Police to get them from me. It wasn't breaking the law or anything they just had to take them. Anyway the cop looked at them and was like "oh these are the Rangers"...and then smirked at me. I can guarantee you those went home with him that day I have to reup at the next gunshow. [/COLOR]

I think everything is spot o to the reasons why I like it. I have two small children, so those added safety features, albeit nothing major, seems to ease my mind as a first time purchaser.

I did manage to shoot a Glock 40, M&P 9mm along with the XD. The Glock felt good, too much power. The M&P I actually thought shot the smoothest with the least amount of recoil, but it kept jamming. The attendant said it had more to do with me breaking my wrist when I shot, but i didn't have the problem with the other two... Lastly the XD just seems to fit. I have large hands but they seemed to grip rather comfortably. Although the recoil kick as more than the M&P, I felt more at home with that one.

I do plan to go back to shoot the Glock 9mm families because I didn't rent any of those. But for right now, the XD is the front runner for all the above mentioned reasons....


Now let's talk sights! Could barely see those damn things on the stock rentable joints. I assume these can be replaced and customized???

[COLOR=#red]The M&P Shield is the single stack magazine version of the S&W M&P. Ok so basically you've found your preference, not a bad choice and this is coming from someone who does not own an XD.

As far as sights go, for visibility you could look into the truglo sights (fiber optic enhanced, so it's not good for ultra low light conditions) or the Trijicon tritium night sights ( a gas that forever glows even without a light source to charge it up...well lasts for years at least) night sights. There are more options of course but those are just a couple to get you started research wise bro. I had tritium night sites on my Sig P229 and my FNP Tac...I liked how the two rear sights were a different color than the front post for ultra fast and non-confusing lineup to target.[/COLOR]
