Seriously, this needs to stop.

I don't think it's a coincidence that every time we put down another team in this thread, it blows up in our face. Let's just play ball

Zambrano, Harden, Dempster in the playoffs

That could be dangerous, I agree to that. Harden is nasty for sure.

I know it is not the same, but the Cardinals could potentially throw Carpenter, Wainwright, Lohse. And for the Brew, CC, Sheets, Parra.

Some pretty good trios right there.

But that is why I said "but the Cardinals could potentially throw Carpenter" - I know it is a stretch, but this Cardinalsteam keeps proving me wrong, so I never rule any scenario out.

Harden Dominant As Offense Hits 3 Homers
Cubs Beat the Nationals 6-1
Rich Harden matched a career-high with 11 strikeouts, Mark DeRosa homered for the fourth straight game and the streaking Cubs took their eighth straight serieswith a 6-1 win over the Washington Nationals on Sunday.

Harden, 4-1 with a 1.47 ERA since his July trade from Oakland, reached double-digit strikeouts for the seventh time in hiscareer and fifth time in eight starts with the Cubs.

Chicago (80-50) moved 30 games over .500, while the Nationals managed just four hits and lost their fifth straightseries.

DeRosa became the first Cubs player to homer in four straight games since Fred McGriff did it in September 2001, and outfielder Kosuke Fukudome showed signs ofending his hitting funk when he drove a pinch-hit homer to right in the eighth. He was hitless in his last four games, continuing his second-half swoon thatsaw his average dip to .262.

The Cubs took a 3-0 lead in the second against Jason Bergmann. DeRosa led off with his 18th homer, Jim Edmonds walked and Geovany Soto hit a 3-1 pitch to leftfor his 19th homer.

Nationals outfielder Austin Kearns provided the Nationals' only offense with a solo homer that fell just inside the foul pole in left in the third. Threeof the game's first four hits were home runs, an oddity on a day when the wind was blowing in at 10 mph.

Harden struck out the side in the seventh to tie his career-high, which he accomplished with Oakland earlier this season. He gave up two hits in seven innings.

Harden has struck out 21 in 14 innings, with zero walks, in his last two starts.

Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman was Harden's biggest victim Sunday, striking out all three times he faced the right-hander.

Bergmann (2-10) gave up four runs, four hits and four walks. He was solid for a while after the Cubs' three-run second, giving up only one hit -- awind-aided bloop double by Aramis Ramirez in the sixth -- until Mike Fontenot doubled with one out in the seventh.

The slumping Fukudome then came to the plate, hearing some boos thanks to his .145 average in August, and took two balls from Steven Shell before sending hisninth homer to the bleachers in right. Fukudome watched video of himself with manager Lou Piniella before the game, though neither talked to the media.

Carlos Marmol loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth but struck out Cristian Guzman looking with a slider.

Notes: Cubs 1B Derrek Lee sat with upper back spasms after aggravating a lingering injury. Lee said he suffers occasional spasms in his neck and the left sideof his upper back, but it rarely causes him to miss time. Daryle Ward started at first base for Lee for only the third time this season. ... Soto tied RandyHundley for most home runs by a Cubs rookie catcher. ... DeRosa improved his career-high home run total. ... Harden struck out 11 against Philadelphia on June26.

I wasn't sure what angle you were taking, so Iresponded with both back.

Pirates could not close it out today,

Cards 3.5 back still. BUT there is a huge 2 game mini series at Busch this week, at least we won't have to faceCC, that is quite a sigh of relief.

As a Cubs fan, I'd rather face the Brewers 3 than the Cardinals 3 if they're healthy. I say this, because the Cubs get to pitchers earlyand CC and Sheets usually get better as the game goes on and don't start strong.

So it was a great day to be at the baseball game. I wore jeans and a Ernie Banks jersey. I didnt sweat a drop and i was never cold. positively idyllic. Windwas blowing in pretty good most of the game, though.
Harden was nearly untouchable.
Right before the DeRosa HR the lady in front of me said, "Mark has been so hot, but, I dont think he will keep his homer streak alive in this wind."before she finished her sentence he jacked one right into the bleachers. lol.
On the Fukudome HR she said " I dont know why the Nats are having a discussion on the mound, Fukudome has sucked since the all star break, he is an easyout." 3 pitches later, Kosuke was waving one goodbye. Rawsome.
i ate 2 hot dogs and drank some beer. pretty awesome game. Also John Cusack sang the 7th inning stretch, that was neat.

I can't remember the last series the Cubs lost.

But that game on Friday vs the Nats was inexcusable.

80 - 50.

Can we go 20 and 12 to finish with a 100?

He should be putting this series away tonight with a chance for a sweep tomorrow. Not falling a damn part in the very first inning.

Whoooooo...Cubs with 4 runs in the top of the 4th including a 3-run double by Soto, and an RBI single by Big Z himself.
