and rooney isn't my hero btw..i just like him but hes not even my fave footballer. him and giggs are my fave on united but all time my faves are zizou and cantona.

i will defend him because hes one of my fave players and quite simply there are alot of worse people in the epl. people on here trash him all the time but if i or any other man utd(or supporter of another club) criticise fabregas,eduardo, rvp, sagna, arshavin etc you guys pop a hemroid as if its blasphemy. alot or arsenal fans on here have an our @*! dont stint attitude. and i dont need to cop a track suit to "complete my research" that sounds absurd. i only know what i know about chavs/scallies etc because im in the uk alot. my moms hometown which we visit alot(kettering,northants,uk) has a TON of chavs and although i dont interact with them i watch them get drunk and act a fool from my hotel window at night.

that said adabayors behavior imo was attrocious/disgraceful. dude ran the whole field t celibrate in front of the arsenal end..and although funny it was def od and unprofessional and caused trouble. i guess someone got pegged with something during the ruckus. and for stomping on rvp he should be banned for atleast 3 matches and fined. was just as bad as when rooney"stomped" on carvahalo in the 2006 wc. im not saying he should be banned because hes facing utd next week either.

Damn Kettering?! At the moment I live in Northampton.. Kettering is so horrible

last there Christmas 07. was there after Christmas actually. arrived the day of or after boxing day. been there many times before as well.actually went to north hampton as well that trip. played some pool at a bowling alley. stopped at the audi dealership to check out the r8 in the window with mycousin/friend rob. been to mk as well.

Let me point out that what I am about to say is not particularly aimed at Arsenal Football Club or Eduardo. The same comments could just as easily be directedtowards Wayne Rooney and Manchester United, or any number of players who regularly perform the same act of cheating during the course of a game. It just sohappens that this appalling decision by the obviously spineless UEFA involves an Arsenal player.

There can be no doubt about the fact that Eduardo dived against Celtic. He did what so many players now do: stopped moving his legs so that he fell forwardinto the goalkeeper, therefore giving the appearance that he had been fouled. It is exactly the same thing that Rooney did for Manchester United againstArsenal; the only difference is that Almunia clattered into Rooney (thereby fulfilling the charade) whereas Boruc did not. Eduardo's dive was obvious,whereas contact with the goalkeeper renedered Rooney's less so.

After both incidents, it is sickening to hear the players concerned proclaim that they are 'fair' players. They did not, and have never, sought to gainan advantage by 'simulation'. Eduardo is quoted as saying "I just want to say that I am a fair player. To score goals you must take youropportunities and I'm not the type of player who needs to be dishonest to score goals." So black is white, and in spite of all of the evidence to thecontrary, we must believe that he does not cheat. His club compounds the hypocrisy; this from its statement: "We fully support the drive for fair play infootball and believe it is important that Uefa provides clear and comprehensive standards that will be consistently enforced going forward." Sothey're glad that UEFA is taking action against this type of offence, they just want to be excluded from it.

Such words - and indeed the act of cheating itself - are perhaps understandable given all that is at stake in matches played at he highest level. Notacceptable, but understandable. What is both unacceptable and inexplicable is the apparent basis for UEFA's decision to overturn its original ban. Thisagain from the Arsenal statement: "We were able to show there was contact between the keeper and Eduardo and that the decision should be annulled,".

So there you have it: as long as there is 'contact' between two players, anything goes. As long as there is 'contact', it does not matter thatone player is diving, for he will not be punished for his 'simulation'. All cheating is absolved if there is 'contact'. Not necessarily a foul,you understand, but 'contact'.

What a shameless abrogation of responsibility by one of the world's principal governing bodies. Consider the following extract from the laws of the game:


A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any
of the following seven offences in a manner considered by the referee to be
careless, reckless or using excessive force:


• kicks or attempts to kick an opponent
• trips or attempts to trip an opponent
• jumps at an opponent
• charges an opponent
• strikes or attempts to strike an opponent
• pushes an opponent
• tackles an opponent

Now I may be missing something, but I can't see any reference to 'contact'. I can see 'intent'; I can see 'careless' and'reckless'; I can see 'excessive force'. 'Contact' is conspicuous by its absence. It could of course be argued that Boruc (andsubsequently Almunia) were 'careless', but it seems to me that Boruc in particular was extremely careful in his attempt to avoid contact with thesomehow tumbling Eduardo.

So UEFA has (in what must be presumed to be an attempt to avoid any act that might - God forbid! - set a precedent that it has to follow) pandered to the falsebelief of most commentators that 'contact' constitutes a foul. Never mind what the laws of the game state, let's not rock the boat. Better to allowcheating that can be ignored than to take steps to show that it is unacceptable and to work at eradicating it.

This, my friends, is a sad day for the beautiful game. This watershed decision has shown all those who wish to cheat that they may do so with impunity. UEFAhad a chance to improve the game and has blown it in spectacular fashion.


I fear that it is all downhill from here.

All good managers do it.

Mourinho, Sir Alex, Wenger are just some of the managers out there who consistently make comments that keep the media focused on the comments rather than theplayers themselves. Taking heat from the media does not phase good managers as it does egotistical players who get their panties tied up in a bunch after fansboo them or the media criticizes them. Wenger knows exactly what he's doing.

Deflecting attention from divers is common amongst all managers in the game today. Mourinho did it following the Drogba diving controversy, SirAlex constantly came to the defense of Ronaldo and recently Wenger had to come out with some nonsensical statements to protect Eduardo. Everyone knows Eduardodove but Wenger was smart to switch the spotlight onto himself in order to take some pressure off of his player.

I dont see anything wrong with him commenting on Adebayor for several reasons. First of all, he's probably been asked questions about Adebayor almost everyday this season. When he comments on Adebayor the media goes out and reports "Wenger says Adebayor ______" as if he randomly spewed off on the playerrather than mentioning that he was probably asked to comment on him. The FA is also investigating Adebayor's conduct during the game with Arsenal which wasonly 3-4 days ago so I dont see anything wrong with Wenger talking about Adebayor at the moment.

We all know the home grown rule would hurt Wenger the most. This is mostly a problem in England because English talent is not up to par with the other bigfootballing countries in the world. Another problem is English players cost way more than non-English.

Most interesting matches this weekend are obviously Scum vs. Scum and Manure vs. Manshi.tty on Sunday. Unfortunately we wont see the best of what Man City hasto offer as both Robinho and Adebayor are out.

Just to re-iterate what I was saying a few days ago about the stupid media pressing Wenger for questions and then flipping his quotes into sensationalisticjournalism...

Wenger has already admitted his disappointment at the reaction of Adebayor - a player he plucked from relative obscurity at Monaco three years ago, and helped mould into one of Europe's most sought-after strikers.
