If the Mariners get Jackson for Morrow I'm going to puke.
That'd be like us trading them Belisario

#mlb The Dodgers badly need an ace and are focusing on Blue Jay ace Roy Halladay. The Dodgers would have to give up Billingsley and others.
I'm not exactly sure we "badly" need anything. Giving up Billingsley for Halladay makes very little sense.
Completely agree.
I would love to have Halladay, but he is nearing his mid 30's and trading a young arm who is a proven All Star is taking a step back.
Trading Bills right now will be a mistake.

i get what youre saying but my only gripe is that he is only locked in through this year. im pretty sure he's gonna test the FA market nextyears and the yankees are ALWAYS looking for pitching and have DEEP pockets. Red sox have to compete with the yanks so theyre always in the market for anythingthe yankees are too. i seriously see him going to one of those teams next year.Originally Posted by dland24
*EDIT* And I cannot believe you guys are seriously debating whether or not it would be a good idea to part with Billingsley for Halladay. Are you guys kidding me? Really? You wont trade an "all star" pitcher who continually gets lit up during the second half of the season and down the stretch for one of the best pitchers in baseball? Im sorry, but you guys are NUTS. And 32 years old is somehow now a problem? He will be filthy for at LEAST another 5 years. I know we all like to overvalue the guys we like, but this is just silly. I like Matt Cain a lot, but I sure as hell would rather have Halladay. And Cain is WAY MORE valuable than Billingsley. Pitching wins championships, and just like I said before the 09 season started, you guys need some.
Dodgers, Blue Jays Discussing Halladay
By Mike Axisa [November 20 at 8:26pm CST]
Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports tweets that the Dodgers and Blue Jays are once again discussing Roy Halladay. Earlier today we learned that Toronto GM Alex Anthopoulos had contacted the Cubs about moving Halladay, and as Brown said, it looks like he's "restarting the process of moving Doc."

Halladay
Toronto Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay does not want to resign with Toronto after his contract expires after the 2010 season, according to reports.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today said via Twitter on Thursday that the Los Angeles Dodgers are jumping into the Halladay sweepstakes, and they might just have enough talent to spare to land the ace
They'd likely have to start with either southpaw Clayton Kershaw or right-hander Chad Billingsley, but perhaps prospects Andrew Lambo, Chris Withrow or 2008 draftee Ethan Martin could be part of the package as well.

[h5]Russell Martin | Dodgers[/h5]

With a divorce potentially clouding ownership and a chance to stay atop the National League West with a few shrewd moves, the Los Angeles Dodgers could look to trade All-Star catcher Russell Martin this winter, writes ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.
"With nine arb-eligible players, plus an owner embroiled in a messy divorce, L.A. is looking to cut costs. Though Martin is only 26, his stats have been trending downward for two seasons. He made $3.9 million this year and had just 26 extra-base hits, so his 2010 salary could outweigh his production."
Martin could make more than $6 million next season, but the problem with trading Martin is that the Dodgers don't have his replacement in house, thanks to the Casey Blake trade of 2008 where Carlos Santana was sent to Cleveland.
GM Ned Colletti could look to the free-agent market for a similarly talented backstop, however, such as Brian Schneider, Rod Barajas or Yorvit Torrealba, none of whom would require a large contract.
Dodgers: Halladay acquisition looking unlikely
November 23, 2009 | 2:51 pm
General Manager Ned Colletti made clear today that the any speculation about a deal that would send Chad Billingsley to Toronto for Roy Halladay is nothing more than speculation. Colletti refused to talk specifically about Halladay but said, "We would like to improve our pitching, especially starting pitching. I don't believe we can subtract from it in order to improve it."
In other words, the Dodgers won't trade a pitcher to acquire a pitcher.
One source familiar with the Dodgers' talks with Toronto called the possibility of the Dodgers' landing Halladay "a long-shot."
Also:
-- Dylan Hernandez
- Colletti is interested in re-signing backup catcher Brad Ausmus and has been exchanging voice-mails with the veteran.
- The Dodgers haven't had any discussions with Cincinnati about Brandon Phillips or with Florida about Dan Uggla.
Phillies, Juan Castro Agree To Terms
By Mike Axisa [November 24 at 1:40pm CST]
1:40pm: MLB.com's Todd Zolecki learned from Castro's agent Oscar Suarez that he's closing in on a deal with the Phillies. As Suarez put it: "Who doesn't like Juan Castro?" Scott Lauber of The News Journal says only a physical remains, and David Murphy of the Philadelphia Daily News says an agreement has been reached on a one-year deal with a club option.
1:11pm: Andy Martino of the Philadelphia Inquirer believes the Phillies are the frontrunner to sign Castro, though no deal is imminent.
11:50am: Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FoxSports.com report that both the Dodgers and Phillies are pursuing utility infielder Juan Castro. The Phillies are looking at him as a replacement for Eric Bruntlett (who isn't likely to return), while Dodgers are trying to retain him after he hit .277/.311/.339 in 121 plate appearances for them last year.
The 37-year-old Castro signed a minor league deal with LA last season, though he spent basically the entire season in the big leagues. He made $700K while playing three infield spots and left field in 2009.
