OFFICIAL 2010-2011 NBA PLAYOFFS THREAD : VOL. MOST. ANTICIPATED. PLAYOFFS. EVER?

Hey, speaking of which, I think I might finally pick up a next generation system (PS3) this weekend. Once I get acclimated, I'll be up for a little 2K11 and Madden with you guys.

Naw, I'm not on Yao, had a question from earlier stuff.

So, does True Shooting % imply a person is a better shooter then another?  What factors does the % bring in?  For instance Shaq wouldn't be a better shooter then Kobe, because he takes shots from 2 feet, etc.  So what does it factor for it's equation?

I wish one of the stat guys had the time to actually create a thread, and go thru the different "new" numbers thing they use, and break them down.  I may not agree with them, but I would read that and listen.  (I know that takes a ton of time)  Or I suppose if one of them would want to do some of them in here.

I picked up a 360 for my daughter, which of course meant I went and got 2K11 as well, ya know, for her.

And he wasn't out of shape his whole career? I recall watching him lumber up and down the court every single possession and pick up a ton of sloppy fouls. It has been like six years since he's actually been on an NBA floor, though, so maybe I just can't remember.

I don't know what, "1 out of 5 in Canada we call that a fail, im not sure how your education system would score it." means.
"None of them 7'6" is the key phrase, considering how few people have been effective at his size, I looked it up, of guys over 7-3 (the height above which I think we accept as being freak status.)  Yao has the 2nd Highest rebound rate behind Sabonis.

Again I think the lumbering has more to do with the 7'6 thing again, and plus again he averaged 33 minutes his whole career, thats good for 13th highest out all the 7 footers in the history of the game, so how out of shape could he be?

The 1 out of 5, im saying I can't argue about the frail part because he does get injured a lot but the rest of it you're wrong about.

... I feel like a group like that might need a coach that has made a name for himself. I know Westphal reached the Finals with the Suns in 1993, but that team was pretty much handed to him when Cotton Fitzsimmons retired. All this being said, it's early.
QFTMFT. Completely agree with pretty much everything you wrote. Especially the statement about Westphal

Don't waste your time, brah. The T-Wolves, even with Love and Beasley aren't exactly doing much better than the Kings. Now wsup with that?

The point of TS% is to add FTA and 3P into you regular shooting percentage, it's not about who is a better shooter because you would have to watch the game to determine that. (which I never do)

For example Jeff Green has a 45 FG%, Danilo Gallianri shoots 40% from the field so naturally people say Jeff Green is more efficient but  you don't factor in that Gallo gets to the line more times and shoots 90%, he also is also a much better 3 point shooter at 38% from the field.

So TS% takes that into account ANND.

Danilo is probably a more efficient. scorer.

Danilo is probably a more efficient. scorer.

But it doesn't determine who the better shooter is then?  Ok, that makes me feel a little better at least.  JH has Rondo with a higher TS% then D Rose, and if that implied who the better shooter was, NT was about to come to an end.

Soooo, Corey Maggette = Colston status because of how many times he flops to the line?
ohwell.gif
That's some bogusness right there.  I'm not sure about the whole FT attempts, being included in a shooting percentage.  Points per shot, (used to be one of Doug Collins fav stats) I can understand the need, but TS% with free throw attempts?  Weird.

PPS does a similar thing, different way of skinning the same cat.

Maggete's was god status last year with the TS% but this year he's TS% is garbage because he ONLY can score by getting to the line, his jump shot and seemingly a lot of his athleticism has disappeared.

TS% is just a factoid it's not particularly useful until you combine it with what you have seen. TS% tells me that last year and most of his career, Cory is an efficient scorer, watching him(which I never do) tells me he is a black hole who scores without making his teammate better and is in fact probably worse.

but the perception is I blindly follow what any statistic says.

JA says he's asian almost as much as he talks about the Mavs for no reason.

Ok, maybe not that many times, but a lot of times.

Remember he was leading the Jeremy Lin crusade?  How ya'll not know that?
