Official 2010 San Francisco Giants Season Thread (92-70) NL West Division Champions!

Maaaaake iiiiiiiit stooooooooooooop!!!

Two of my patients said they're excited to watch the Giants game today.

Wouldn't be surprised to find out both have died from heart attacks next time I come in.

Tired bullpen. Only Romo, Casilla, and Lopez seem to be effective.

And the Phillies sat on Zito's changeup like the Cubs did and smacked it everytime Zeets threw it.

It's now been 2 weeks since a starter won a game

If this pitching staff does not get their act together soon we could fall out of the division race quickly and possibly the wild card. It's unfortunate that the bats and the pitching have started slumping at the same time but we got one month to go with a ton of games left against the division.

Will Clark is having a signing at the Public House on September 18th if anybody was interested. I think it's $40.

Giants Reinstate Affeldt; Place Ray on DL
Aug. 18, 2010

SAN FRANCISCO – Prior to tonight's game here in Philadelphia, the San Francisco Giants have placed right-handed pitcher Chris Ray on the 15-day disabled list with a right intercostal strain and left-handed pitcher Jeremy Affeldt has returned from his rehab assignment and has been reinstated from the 15-day disabled list, club Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Sabean announced today.
Ray was touched for four runs on three hits in the Phillies’ five-run 8th inning last night and had allowed six runs in just 3.1 innings of work over his last six appearances. The 28-year-old, who was acquired by the Giants from the Rangers July 1 in exchange for catcher Bengie Molina and minor league right-handed pitcher Michael Main, has gone 3-0 with a 5.40 ERA (9er, 15.0ip) in 20 relief appearances with San Francisco this season.

Affeldt, who missed 23 games with a left oblique strain while warming up in the Giants bulllpen in a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 23, tossed 3.0-scoreless innings while allowing two hits, one walk and recording four strikeouts in two rehab games with Class A Advanced San Jose. He last pitched Sunday night vs. Modesto, pitching 2.0-scoreless frames with three strikeouts.

The 31-year-old has gone 2-3 with a 4.11 ERA (16er, 35.0ip) in 37 relief appearances for San Francisco this season. Prior to his injury he had held opponents scoreless in 12 of his last 13 games while allowing just two runs in 12.2 innings (1.43 ERA).

Another pathetic performance by the Giants, which will continue it seems for the remainder of the season. This team needs some major changes heading into the next season. At least the Niners begin their season in a few weeks.

That is now 14 days since a starter has won a game. With this stretch of games being the biggest test, facing playoff contender after playoff contender, the strength of this team has not been getting the job done. With the padres never losing it seems like, the phillies winning 20 of their last 25, and the cardinals right behind us in the wild card the season could be decided in the next week. I hate to say that with a whole month left but the giants just have not looked good against the top teams in the NL this month.

I've been trying to stay positive. Im done. This is not a playoff team.

Do we re-sign Uribe and Huff?

Both are overachieving this year and the Giants are infamous to jump on players doing well in contract years.

As much as both players are appreciated, I don't want either back long-term.

And trade Cain, I'm kind of done with him.

I say yes to signing both players back, and like you, not committed to keeping them here long-term.

Next season's infield should be Huff, Sanchez, Uribe & Sandoval. Also, because the Giants are cheap, I just have a feeling they'll bring up Burriss for infield depth and re-sign Travis Ishikawa.

As for Cain, I say package him with J. Sanchez and see what offers are made.

EDIT: Just remembered Mark DeRosa is still on the team. Infield Depth, baby!

The Giants being cheap is a common misconception. We are #9 in MLB this year dishing out $98 million. And it's beyond sad that with all that money, this is the best team that can be put together.

You're right. They're not cheap. Sabean only throws big dollars at players who give him the best blowjobs. That's why he likes signing veterans, because they know how to handle the stick.

This season the Giants are 9th in average attendance, what I hate is that they have a good market and Sabean and Baer seem to hold out on fully committing to the team. They're only committed to putting more money in their pockets and pretend to show us that they want to win.
