Official 2011 NFL Draft Thead Vol. Lions winning.... Niners losing...

Let me ask NT talent evaluation guru's something.

If PP runs a 4.45 or worse and comes to the combine at 220lb is he a top 10 pick? top 20? based off his DB play only? I think he is being put in that top class because of his speed. I dont think he sucks or anything but if he is not running 4.3's or better he is just "one of the guys". Thats just how I feel about him. If Jimmy Smith runs in the low 4.4's I think he moves up to the end of round one in 30 seconds flat.

the guy was clocked last year doing 4.3... i think he will be fine. The guy is on the bigger end for CB at 6'1" 220.  He was really this years nnahmdi... people just stayed away. That's impressive. He can still get to the ball if challenged, he has great feet and hips. He can plan press, man, zone and has football smarts. knows how to bait when he is challenged. He is a top 10 pick imo.

now with that said, Personally i like mad physical CBs who will hit you in the mouth... love my dude vontae. he throws his body in there. So on a personal note I do like Jimmy better and he has been doing it longer. But he hasn't had the level of talent consistently like PP playing in the sec.

I know PP is fast I was just speaking hypothetically. He will fall if he doesnt run GREAT he has the most to lose.

gotcha... if he doesn't run great they will say "well the game tape shows how fast he played. he can run step for step...." etc etc. He'll be going top 10 no matter what.
he looks too pretty to teams not too. especially the top 5, they all need a CB. he won't go past 3 even if he does get a not great time. imo of course.

PP is a top-10 lock regardless of his timed speed. The only real threat to his stock is obviously Prince who could easily jump PP as the first corner taken. Shutdown corners are at a premium with the NFL shifting into pass-happy offenses. Even the value of nickel and dime CBs has been heightened gradually over the years. Jimmy Smith is legit and I like his future in the league a lot, but he should be happy to go late-first or early-second. I would surprised if Smith even managed to jump Brandon Harris on the boards. Bottom line, Prince and PP are penciled in as the top two corners in any given order regardless of their 40 times. I've long been one of the strongest individuals against hyping up and overvaluing timed speeds. A 40 time and game speed are COMPLETELY different. Leon Hall ran a sub-4.4 surprisingly, but you can't tell me that boy plays football at the same speed he was timed at during the Combine.
TheOne, I don't think it's necessarily just his speed that makes draft analysts consider PP an elite prospect. It's more the rare combination of freakish athleticism at his size/frame (NH). I expect his 40 time to be right in the range of 4.4 flat. One thing is certain, it would be wise for his trainers to help PP cut weight for the Combine somewhere in the 5-10 pound range. Critics will be sure to question his ability to play the CB position before they knock PP's timed speed. I've already heard comparisons to Antrel Rolle and a forced move to safety at the next level.

i was responding to what he said about he running a slow 40 time. just saying what he was officially clocked at and that he will be fine.

but i completly agree with you... his at 210-215.... that would be a real good look. we'll see how it goes. can't wait for the combine and draft.

^ Probably won't happen but there are legitimate concerns that PP is an athlete playing corner and might have to be moved to safety. Prince could be seen as the safer bet at CB given his strong technique, instincts, and shutdown potential as witnessed on tape at Nebraska. Both prospects can tackle and I don't see much disparity between them. PP has that home-run potential to be a superstar in the league based on his rare athleticism and ability to make plays, but that doesn't mean Prince won't be an All-Pro corner in his own right. I'm telling you, Dre, I've heard the Antrel Rolle comparison for PP over and over whether it's warranted or not.

A CB/S hybrid who will allow you to be even more versatile in your back 7? w/ Return skills to boot? Dynamic playmaker once he makes the int or catches a punt. Can match up w/ WR's/TE's in the slot? I don't see how superstar potential at possibly 2 positions is a negative.

Antrel isn't near the athlete. Antrel was able to maul WR's @ the LOS and blitz off the corner. He wasn't a blazing athlete and able to turn and run w/ everyone like PP is.

All this %**@ is moot though, b/c he's gonna weigh in @ 6'1 210, run a 4.37, beast in his drills and go top 3, lol

PP isnt a saftey though. His hips are fluid and he can sink them well. I think it would be a waste to put him anywhere but DB. Could he play safety? Yea but his hips/backpedal arent issues. His ball skills are not bad either I wish he was a bit more aggressive (watching him let Jeff Fuller catch pass after pass underneath him and the times he did try to make plays on the ball he reacted wrong just turned me off). I feel he plays not to get burned and I am biased to a certain type of DB though and I can admit it.

Can anyone recommend me a game of his to watch?

Yeah, but in that same game, did you not see him make Jeff Fuller run a slant? He couldn't get off the line for %#%$

Chavis had him that off man, cover 3 allowing for some of those catches. And Jeff Fuller is no slouch either.
