I haven't been this excited about Marlins baseball since going into the 2005 season

New team, new stadium and city, new logo

We'll have one of the most exciting teams in baseball and I think we can challenge the Phillies for the NL East

I'll try my best to keep this thread up to day throughout the season. I know we may not have alot of Marlins fans on NT but it's time we had a season thread

Woody whats good my dude!!!

Never been one to follow baseball much but as a Native of North Miami I've always been a supporter of the Florida Marlins since it became a franchise back when I was in middle school ... Having said that, I too am pretty excited in this new direction for this organization, new management, new stadium and location and New Franchise name!!!!

This is my team to watch all year aside from my Yanks. I picked them to come out the NL in the WS.

As long as Josh Johnson is healthy, Buehrle, Sanchez, and an impressive Zambrano in ST throwing 95 - they should be solid. Bell is lights out in the back of the pen.

I think Logan Morrison is going to have a huge year with Reyes, Hanley, Stanton and possibly Gaby hitting infront of him. Tons of RBI's available.

Hope you guys pan out, and stay injury free. Should be a fun year

people better start showing up to the ballpark or there will be a fire sale in 2 years
I def think they are the team that could challenge the Phils in the division; Braves will take a step back and the Mets well...

I am a life long Mets fan that is boycotting the team. I have since then adopted the Marlins. I think they will play some real exciting baseball, plus they are actually trying to put some talent out on the field. Also the 10 team playoffs certainly helps things.

Marlins President Calls Miamians Stupid, Jose Reyes Greedy

If you know anything about the sweetheart deal the city gave the Marlins to build a new stadium, you know team president David Samson basically bent Miami over a pinball machine and had his way with it. But he's far from done with the humiliation—with his remarks to a gathering of local business leaders yesterday, Samson essentially tossed Miami five bucks for cab fare and told it to clean itself up.
"I don't have to hold back now that the stadium is built," Samson told the Beacon Council, adding "we're not the smartest people in Miami. If you're in this room, you're instantly in the top 1%."

Samson recalled his meetings with officials in San Antonio and Las Vegas in exploratory efforts to move the team, and pretty much admitted that selling tickets is more important than having good fans.

If the Marlins were to move to Las Vegas, Mr. Samson said, he suggested the casinos there buy out game tickets in advance so nobody would be drawn away from the casinos.

"We don't care if nobody comes," Mr. Samson recalled with a smile. "We'll play in front of nobody, and we'll have all the money."

Oh, and remember how Jose Reyes said he came to the Marlins because "I see the plan that they have, the great young talent that they have there in Miami, and I think it's a good opportunity to win?" Yeah, no. Samson sort of blew up Reyes's spot:

"[Reyes] said 'I really want to play in Miami as long as you pay me $1 more than anyone else… I really want to make the most money I can.'"

Objectively, it doesn't make sense to hate a ballclub. It's just laundry, after all. But in their 19 years of existence, the Marlins have done nothing more than sell off beloved players anytime they win, pocket revenues without putting them back into the team, lie to their city about the money they're bringing in, and spend taxpayer cash without giving taxpayers a say. I think it's okay to hate the Marlins.

I'm not fan of Samson, but that whole thing was taken out of context. They played the tape on the radio, it sounded nothing like what was on print.

Feels weird calling them the Miami Marlins but I'm excited for this season

Hopefully we are good enough to make the playoffs and make nice run. Really wish I was back in south Florida so I could see some games at the new stadium. Guess I'll have to see them when they play the mets

You do realize how bad the location of that stadium was right? The new stadium is in a perfect location. We werent spending any money at the time and alot of fans, like myself, still hate most of managementHow Loria blew up the 03 team was ridiculous and add into the whole Girardi incident and firing, Loria can still go $!%! himself.Wouldnt mind seeing Rowand make the team. Wish Coghlan could get his act together but it lools like Kearns will be the 4th outfielder.Stanton is gonna have a huge year

you will see a bump in support but the truth is people in Miami really don't care about pro sports; it is a transplanted area and no salary cap makes it harder for a market like Miami to survive.

I wouldn't call Little Havana with their one lane roads a "prefect location". I preferred Southwest Broward. I went to see the Marlins v. Hurricanes about a week ago in the new stadium and the parking is horrendous. Granted, AAA isn't in the greatest neighborhoods either, but people flock there.

I'm interested to see what happens this year. With such a large hispanic population, and the new stadium bieing in Little Havana....something has to give.

Parking has always been bad at the Orange Bowl, and I'm sure will be even worse at the new stadium.

I'm going back home to visit the folks in July, hopefully I can catch a game when I'm down there.

Miami is a young sports city(ESPECIALLY compared w/ NY/Chicago/Boston/Philly/most of the Mid-West). Given the park's location in Little Havana(baseball is popular in Cuba), the retractable roof(no pesky rain delays, or humid days due to AC) and the excitement of this team, and the Marlins will get a good draw for the next 4 years and beyond.
W/ that said, if Josh is healthy, I expect the Marlins to win the division and the World Series. I'm rooting for Reyes, he deserves it.

Also, expect Hanley; Gaby Sanchez, and Annibal to have great performances this year.

i'm skeptical. even though this area doesn't deserve it, the miami heat with the big 3 and the marlins with their new stadium are exciting. it's fun to be able to go to entertaining sporting events. i'm not a "fan" of either team because i don't have any loyalties to basketball or baseball teams but i show my support to them. i'd like to see people come out and support the marlins but we'll see how that goes. everything is in place for them to draw fans. so there are no more excuses.
