this off season had 3 of the top C's in the league going to new teams (dwight, jefferson, bynum). anyone who didnt sign dwight shouldve went after jefferson right away. anyone who didnt get jefferson or dwight shouldve got bynum (even though hes a risk)

but his statement has some sort of credence and validity to it. As long as Kobe is at the helms Lakers aren't going to get a "marquee" player to lead them to the future. As history shows him and another superstar=unhappiness/failure.you would applaud a psycho 50 year old obsessed with kobe like coach hubie huh...

He is in the latter stages in his career to which adding serviceable pieces might not be enough for the Lakers to win a chip, and wont be enough to make them a championship caliber team after Kobe retires. Plus when you factor in the new ownership, and their unproven track record, coupled with the sample size of decisions made so far, the Lakers are not the Lakers of old. And that legacy, historical draw once held is pretty much no longer.
With the Clippers and Warriors emergence, I do see a shift in power in the Cali area. Lakers are in a stagnant state, To bad to be a threat and relevant, and to good+ fans expectations to pretty much "tank" and basically do a reboot. And really no viable pieces to trade/move to reload. Not to mention with Buss no longer around with his pull/connections etc... I don't see the Lakers having the ability to pull off any of their "famous" one sided, favorable deals.

Hopefully Detroit just goes big and plays Smith, Drummond and Monroe at the same time. Smith is versatile he can guard 3's. Now they need a shooter and a PG better then Knight and they'd be on their way.

I hope Greg Monroe improves and is working on his game this offseason, he is one heck of a player and a bigmen with his kind of skills is care, plus he is a former Hoya.
Andre Drummond I read, is training with Hakeem ........... Tyler Hansborugh is still a Free Agent?

Start Monroe at the 5, Smith at the 4, Drummond off the bench. Occasionally go big with all three together

I had a feeling this would go down, and I agree I don't like the move for either party. I see drummonds basically becoming darko all over again. Sure j smooth, will add a few more wins, and help in attendance, but all in all the pistons will still be irrelevant. Drummonds wont really get to develop and flourish, and Smith will just waste away his prime years...and in the end the pistons at best will win maybe 5-10 more games.

i dont understand these teams they spend money just because they have it then complain later on. josh smith is a terrible signing for detroit he does nothing to make them better. they shouldve given that money to iggy. and that's the other move i dislike golden state didnt need iggy. shouldve saved that money.

Damn everyone in here really hates josh smith huh. It's not that bad of a signing. They just need to find a pass first PG and a shooter.

Eh, would have rather seen the Pistons save the cap room...let the young talent develop another year, take lumps, aimed for Smart/Harrison or another scoring wing alongside Pope in lottery pick next year (Top 8 protected) in what will be one of the more loaded drafts in a decade-plus (on paper). They built this young nucleus thru the draft, shouldn't have went astray from that.
Can't be mad at getting a talent like J-Smoove, but they needed more of a wing who could space the floor w/ Drummond/Monroe. Taking 22' jumpers is what you dont want Josh doing. But F' it....Pistons literally had no players you would even remotely consider exciting until Drummond showed up. They'll prolly be nasty defensively, and Smith, Drummond & Tony Mitchell could be a highlight factory if nothing else.

josh smith is my favorite player in the league (even when he shoots jumpshots...) but why would detroit want him. just doesnt make sense

Smith is definitely better at the 4 but he can definitely play the 3 well. He did it a lot for the Hawks last season and it went well. Having the option to play smallball is always good too.
Does this turn the Pistons into a contender? Will they be beating the Heat anytime soon? No. But how long do you want them to stay in the lottery and hope for young guys to develop? At this point, they're better off signing a major player (like Smith) and hoping Monroe and Drummond take a leap. Those 3 + anything from their backcourt could make them a really good team.

Guess Dumars is aiming for that 8th spot, he made sure of that by getting an ex-hawk who knows a thing or two about making the playoffs and calling it a day. Detroit just became the new hawks for future playoffs. |I
