Even if he pans out and becomes more efficient, I'll never "like" the pick because Drummond seemed like such a no-brainer. Pair your future all-elite PG with the next great big man prospect? I make that choice every day of the week. Of course, the Cavs weren't the only team to miss on Drummond, but he would have been perfect there.
Plus I thought the Cavs should have nabbed Jonas the year prior. He's poised to breakout this year, while Thompson is learning how to shoot with his other hand.
When was Drummond ever considered a no brainer? Most mocks had him in the 5-8 range from what I remember with concerns with work ethic
Literally every mock draft and Draft reports of that year had Waiters as a better pick than Drummond.....except for Big J.
Dion Waiters will no doubt prove haters wrong this year. I can see him putting up 16ppg, 5rpg, 5apg. His work ethic is crazy. He's nowhere near undersized
. Average height for a 2-guard in the NBA is 6'4-6'7. I hope to God this ***** Waiters goes on a tear this year. Dude obviously has a lot to prove to some of you.
And that term "combo-guard" is so redundant. Nearly every great 2-guard in the league right now can play the point. It's a new game. The same way PF is used as a C. It's the choice of coaching that gives that impression..

The Raptors are filled with a roster of mostly soft jump shooters. What they really need is a tough player who can get to the basket and get his own shot at the end of games. They need a true scorer. DeMar DeRozan might get there someday, but Waiters is there right now. The fact that Waiters can also play some point guard is a bonus. He could go anywhere from No. 6 to No. 15 on draft night.
