Based on how it looked they already know if its a complete ACL, PCL etc just based off physical exam. MRI will confirm and show any addl damage

Theres a simple test where they grab your lower leg and upper leg and see how much slop is in your knee and they can tell right away if the ACL is there or not.

Although, im not sure if it can be done right when it happens because of swelling and what not

They are called the anterior and posterior drawer test. Anterior drawer test is for the ACL. It can be done immediately.
