Heard it said this morning this is a hollow MVP award for Russ. Makes sense, because the triple doubles were shallow and team assisted. Boxing up the free throw line so he can get cheap rebounds. Or leaving his man wide open so he could camp under the basket for rebounds. Spare us with that it saves a pass on the fastbreak by having the ball in his hands. When he had 8 or 9 assists teammates would dribble twice and give the ball back to him if they couldnt score. With the way that Oscar Robinson went at the Warriors and Steph Curry last year, I was wondering how he could get behind this foolishness. When just like Bron in the finals they (triple doubles) were earned and within the flow of the game. Then it all came together the game after he breaks the record the first commercial you see is a Jordan Brand commerical with Oscar and Westbrook. Should have figured he was on the pay roll to be signing on to that nonsense. And if he gave his blessings then it was okay and it wasnt a mockery of the record. Never mind the fact when on the latest Jordan Brand commercial when they show Westbrook's locker they are chanting MVP. This is a ploy to keep Russ in OKC because if he leaves NOBODY is going there.
Nothing about this MVP award was won on the floor. Getting players on the team to buy in to this nonsense in team meetings and Jordan Brand/NBA marketing. Taj and McDermott had to wondering what is going on when they were told this is how things go in OKC
But give him credit because I thought by game 60 or so that he would run out of gas. Salute to being in beyond great shape to pull this off. Team assisted or not
