Voit and Mccuthen need to stick around for another season and we need to straight pass on Machado and Harper and just stack up on starting pitching. What’s the time frame for Montgomery coming back?

Thing is that there is no really good starting pitching in the off-season.

Late next season. Like late July at best.

I don’t think we need to skip on a big name position player.

Tanaka & Severino makes 2.
Sheffield or Chance Adams makes 3.
Happ or CC makes 4.

Could use the farm system + Gray, Clint & Bird for someone. Or make a FA signing.

I don’t think we should go after Machado because Didi and Andujar over the next 5 years will make what Machado makes combined and you won’t have to worry about another 5 years after that. But I would look at Bryce because he does fill a need. But our SP issues doesn’t mean we can’t go after 1 of the 2 and still spend money in an intelligent way

Here’s what I’d do with pitching.

Tanaka and Severino =$25.1mil next year (up $2.5mil)
JA Happ re-sign 2 year $25mil (2nd year $5mil buyout, so technically 1year $17mil)
CC Sabathia 1 year $10.5mil
Justus Sheffield is $580K

Trade away Sonny Gray in some kind of package deal. Save what would likely be $7mil in arbitration.

Bullpen
Green and Holder about $1.25-$1.3mil combined
Kahnle $1.75mil arbitration
Betances skip last year of arbitration and give him 4 year $44mil.
Robertson 3 year $27mil (coming off 4 year $39mil and $13mil this year)

Let Britton go, save $12mil. Use that to Sign Andrew Miller 3year $39mil
