I've met with the a Lambo dealer and they said that those cars are an abomination to the brand and what they stand for, BUT cars like this for luxury brands basically sell to fund their R&D for their other cars.

It's true and it's why they're all pumping out SUVs now as fast as they can. Lambo, Bentley, Rolls Royce, even Aston and Ferrari in the near future. They sell like hotcakes. Porsche wasn't doing well financially when they first released the Cayenne back in '03. It pissed off all the Porsche purists but that money helped them stay alive and went towards the development of the next gen 911, Cayman, and Boxster.
