OFFICIAL 2020 STIMULUS CHECK THREAD

I totally 100% understand where people working essential jobs are coming from when they say it's not fair people get paid more than them to not work. I worked retail for a long time from HS-college and even a few years after and I'd be mad if I was making $500 and my coworker who got laid off is making $900 but that's not the reality for everyone.

A lot of people who were making good money lost their jobs. Guess what happens when people are getting $2400 less a month from benefits? They stop spending money. Now that Uber eats job, that Chipotle job, that Target job, etc all start disappearing bc companies are making less revenue so they're cutting jobs or hours and now those same essential workers are suffering too

I see nothing wrong with turning down work to stay home if jobs in your industry aren’t there. People worked their butts off to learn a trade, obtain a degree, worked at their job for years to get the salary they have. They shouldn’t take the first thing available if they pay/benefits don’t make sense.

As for people making more on unemployment. Personally I’m indifferent. Just be smart with your $$, stack it up so that you can search for jobs on yoir terms. People were turning down crappy jobs long before covid and thats not going to change.

exactly. If I’m in my late 20s, 30s, 40s, etc and say I’ve worked consistently since I was a teenager. That means I’ve paid my dues. If you’ve got 10+ years of work history and real deal worked your behind off, you deserve every advantage or free money possible

One of the major issues with fair compensation is that the media and politicians make the public believe that caring for your fellow man's wages is a bad thing. Tell anyone that you support higher wages for essential workers if it means you get taxed a little bit more and people freak out.

When the news was reporting that McDonalds employees wanted $15 an hour people were appalled. I said I was all for it. If each meal at McDonald's goes up $1 to cover the extra salary of employees then sure. I barely ever eat there but I'll pay the $1 even if I eat there twice a week. But people scream SOCIALIST! and try to denigrate you bc you don't want people to suffer and struggle off garbage wages

Too much based on what?

They used a formula.

What formula are you using?
Im using the history of this country doing the right thing. They typically dont. So using that historical data, I project what was inline with that ($50-100) and bump it up a bit (to $300). So $600 was extremely generous imo. And this country has never been generous (to the deserving anyway). So it feels wild out of character and seems excessive to me.

If this were a country that cared about the well being of its backbone of society, and historically acted as such across the board, then $600 would seem basic. But that is not the paradigm. Its not reality.

I make way more being at work than at home collecting 962 before tax on unemployment When the $600 a week was going on

point being is it’s driving people to NOT work.. that’s idiotic, no?

get it how you live but people purposely not working and being rewarded for it is not cool lol

if you’re literally unemployed due to Covid sure but it’s been shown people are purposely turning down work to stay home

If it's driving people to NOT work for poverty wages likely in some customer service capacity which would only increase their chances of catching COVID then no, it's not idiotic at all. Also, I'm willing a bet a LOT of people are turning down said jobs because of child care. It's hard as hell to find decent childcare right now, plus the additional cost, and the additional risk of your kids catching COVID? No thanks.

The Government has been screwing us to give handouts to corporations since forever, who really gives a damn if some people collect unemployment and catch a break for a few months during a once in a lifetime pandemic?

I hate when people say this.

Like they wont still seize that and any recent purchase his mom has made legally or not lol.

“You worked at papa johns for 8 years. You’re 29 years old. Your yearly earnings average 48k.... how’d you afford a $300k Lamborghini??????”

Maybe, but I see/hear people say this a lot.
but depending on what u tryna do
putting something ur momma name is a plug
car insurance
maybe a cell phone cause u may have to pay a deposit
a car note so u dont get hit with that dti
so u can make a bigger play down the line
or even just ur pg&e cause seniors get a discount

Not looking like this gets done in time.

Same thing as last time. Alot of info getting leaked in an attempt to make one side look and force them to give in. Can't say I'm sure they'll get this done before recess, but it's definitely possible.
