Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Season Thread Vol: (17-17)

Ian Happ with a HR and Double today. looking good in the leadoff role. How is Hap speed? good? decent?

Might be the fastest runner on the team, but not really a base stealer type.

Happ makes the most sense at leadoff. Almora when Happ is off.
Joe can’t get cute with the leadoff spot again this season. Completely ruined Schwarbs season.

Schwarbs is looking too lean out there, wonder if he still has that power to pull the ball?

Jake Arrieta still haven't sign with nobody. Just come back on a 1 year deal.

Really wish he would but I don't think his pride will allow it nor will Boras.
Jake deserves a big pay day, but unless he signs a 1 yr deal and has another Cy young type season, his value will never be higher.

yep! his pride will not let him doing it

It's only spring training, but the bats are absolutely solid right now.

Literally, as I type, Zobrist single, Heyward single, Russell single, Baez double.....

Last night Almora hit an absolute bomb, Schwarber crushed one, and they scored 11, with no Bryant, no Rizzo, no Contreras.

Annnnnnnnnnnnd then Baez comes out of the game limping a little. :smh:

And Carantini follows with another double.

And then Bote doubles.......

Arrieta signs with the Phillies.

Cubs now have 3 2nd Rd picks for letting Jake/Davis leave and signing Yu/Chatwood/Morrow who cost us zero picks.

Theo. :hat

Rough guesstimates, we'll have something close to

24, 63, 76, 79, and 98 in the Draft. 5 of the top 100, more than any other team.

Also, we will be free to start spending again Internationally on July 2nd.

With 2 1st Rd picks last year, + Alzolay, we could have a solid farm again in 2019, while having a very strong MLB team, and making our pitch for Bryce Harper. (Or Manny Machado if we miss with Harper)

This is the golden age of Cubs baseball, all started in 2011 with the hiring of Theo. Can't believe how solid we are as a franchise now after all the turmoil and jokes the previous 100 years.

Victor Carantini makes the 25 man roster, so we will go with 8 relievers and have 3 switch hitters on the roster.

Happ will start in CF

Zobrist, Almora, LaStella, Carantini the bench.

Lester
Hendricks
Darvish
Quintana
Chatwood

Is the rotation.

Opening day lineup something like...

CF Happ S
3B Bryant R
1B Rizzo L
C Contreras R
LF Schwarber L
SS Russell R
RF Heyward L
2B Baez R
P Lester L

:hat

Hopefully Happ can continue his production in the leadoff spot. We needed consistency in that spot last year and couldn't find it.

W. 1-0

Happ hits the first pitch of the 2018 season out

Rizzo and Schwarber add homers of their own, Contreras an RBI double, LaStella a clutch 2-run double as well.
