Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Season Thread Vol: (17-17)

Bryant with the first HR of the season. Heyward the 2nd.

Jake 6 solid 1 run innings. (Run on a seeing eye single)

Kimbrel 1 inning, 3 K's.

Javy with 2 hits, 2 steals, a run and an RBI.

Bryant, Javy, Rizzo all homer, Arietta with a QS and Kimbrel with a 5 out Save.

Strange, but it's possible all of them could be gone next year? :(

Thing is, I wish we would make a move either way. Go ALL IN and try to buy up a piece or two, ORRRRRRRR, sell it ALL off. Everyone, sell it all and completely load up the farm system and reset the payroll and make a run at it in 2-3 years.

We aren't good. We can't hit for ****.

But.....today was fun.

Contreras two solo home runs.
Bryant two two-run home runs.
Baez a three-run home run.
Bote a three-run home run and an RBI double.

A rare offensive explosion.

Beat the Braves 13-4. It was 11-0 at one point.

We suck at hitting, but somehow put up 16 tonight.

Javy is striking out at a historic rate but also hit a grand slam to put us up 14-4. :lol :hat

We single/walk/reached on an error'd them to death.

Last night the Cubs swept the Mets with a 10th inning walk off single by Heyward.

Today...... :lol

It was 10-0 Cubs in the 2nd. 🔥

Cubs beat the Brewers 15-2.

Rizzo and Baez go back to back on consecutive pitches. Cubs hit 4 homers, 6 doubles and a triple.

Bryant, Baez, Hoerner all with 3 hits.

Well...... :lol

Since the Cubs threw a No-Hitter vs the Dodgers.......we have lost 11 straight games. We went from 1st place, to 4th place. In 11 games.

We have gone from buyers at the trade deadline, to sellers. We could likely start offloading talent in the next week or two.

An absolutely epic collapse. Literally, after throwing a No-Hitter. Truly crazy. But, maybe better for the overall future. (Depending on what we get prospect wise during this trade deadline)

This could be the last week of Bryant/Rizzo/Baez :(

Kimbrel/Davies also likely to be moved along with 1-2 other relievers.

This thread has never existed without those first three names. Back when we were nothing but failure and hope......

Sad, but I am excited to see the farm system completely rebuilt and a new generation ready to emerge. #1....Brennen Davis. 🔥🔥🔥

:frown::frown::frown::frown:

KB
Rizz
Baez

Hurt to see them go.
Don't even care that the return was pretty underwhelming, just sad that we won't see them suit up for the Cubbies.

Regardless, these guys won't ever have to pay for another meal or a drink in Chicago.
Tip o' the cap to these gentlemen.
They will be greatly missed and they're contributions to the Cubs/city of Chicago will never be forgotten.

:emoji_beers:

Cubs today have released Jake Arrieta. :(

On June 24th, the Cubs no hit the Dodgers. They were 42-33 and in first place.

They have gone 10-31 since, and are already down 3-0 right now.

Oh, and Contreras just went on the IL....... :lol

Basically, the Cubs are going to go from first place in late June, to possibly a top 6-7 pick in the draft. (Which is likely the goal now)
