To nako xl nako xl and @Dark Brandon,

That list makes me sad. Not because of how small it is but because of how many of those coaches didn’t get and won’t get that second elite job after they are/were fired which is were the progress needs to be made. Charlie Strong should’ve never taken the Texas job. Boosters didn’t want him only to hire Herman who ended up with about the same record. The margin of error for Black coaches is next to none and Marcus better have his head on a swivel because ND will quickly rid themselves of him if he doesn’t keep winning.

This is why I have a problem with Sark. Not necessarily as a person or a coach but he represents the unfairness that I see in the system. I’m glad he’s facing his alcoholism but I don’t believe he should be coaching anyone. No telling what he wasn’t watching out for with his players when he was drunk. Sark gets fired for the alcohol abuse but ultimately gets saved by Saban and ends up with the best job he’s ever had at Texas. Those same boosters wanted him when they told Charlie Strong he’d be a good d coordinator.
For a while there was a stat showing that Ty Willingham was the only black coach to get a 2nd P5 job after being fired (Stanford to ND to UW.) I think since then Sumlin may have been the only black coach to get a 2nd P5 opportunity after being fired.

And with Sark, it wasn't just alcohol abuse. He had a lot of indiscretions during his time at UW and USC. I'd say it's crazy that he basically took half a year off and then all was forgiven, but ... it's not at all surprising.

I went to school with his daughter Cassie and the abuse she got at a private liberal arts college in Denver, Colorado from ND “fans” was gross. She was actually a really nice person.

It's gotten better over the last 20 years at the P5 level but the history of black HCs is lacking for sure.

Which is why I can’t root for him. Add that to his cowardice with the eyes song, I can’t with that guy. I bet he could fall off the wagon and he’d get a third big job
