im growing increasingly convinced that people complaining about the thickness of modern jerseys either never wear them or they live in antarctica

To be fair, we here are consumers, wearing jerseys for casual wear. We're not the athletes on the field.

From this perspective as a casual wearer and a fan of jerseys in general, I SO much more prefer old, thick jerseys......also with big logos, letters, name plates etc. Modern day jerseys are trash IMO.....as a casual wearer.

I've always hated this inaccurate customization crap with authentic jerseys for years now.

The latest dumb discrepancy are these Barry Sanders jerseys that have been customized on the new Lions' jerseys. Fanatics/NFL Shop is selling this crap. It's more disappointing that it's being sold by a mainstream e-commerce site.

Although I never liked the idea of customizing legendary players on contemporary jerseys, I somewhat feel it aligns with sorry lower tier companies selling them in stores or loser resellers selling them on eBay.

This crap reminds me of the early 2000s when Fanzz in Fox Hills Mall sold customized Howie Long white Raiders Nike jerseys and customized Bo Jackson black Raiders Reebok jerseys. They even had the audacity to sell customized Magic & Kareem Lakers Nike jerseys on the 2000s design.

This also reminds me of a loser reseller on eBay who customized Deion Sanders & Brett Favre on the Reebok Falcons jerseys with that 2000s design during that decade.

Yeah, these Nike Authentic elite jerseys are trash. I’m definitely not buying another again. As mentioned, the older thicker and heavier Authentic’s blow these out the water on a casual standpoint as well as a quality standpoint. Even my 2012 Brian Urlacker Nike elite authentic has better quality then this authentic commanders Nike elite jersey. It retailed for $250. This Commanders one is $335 and it’s paper thin lol. Never again ..lol

this doesnt make sense. the point of authentic jerseys is to offer collectors what is worn in game. the jerseys are designed for the athletes. replica jerseys are for casual wearers

Replica jerseys are trash.

However, modern day jerseys are pretty much replica jerseys IMO.

I'm half joking as I know the technology is better....but these modern day jerseys look like garbage. They're thin, frail, tiny lettering, haven't had a good looking jock-tag in forever, and often look like softball team jerseys.

I'd rather have what players wore on the field in previous times, because what we've been getting, ain't it! :smh:

Give me old Rawlings or Majestic jerseys that were thicker, had larger letters, nameplates, and numbers any day. I much prefer vintage, wool jerseys baseball players used to wear WAY back in the day....as crazy as that was. I prefer old Sand Knit, Champion, Starter, and similar basketball jerseys the NBA used to wear.

Like you, I also only want to wear what is worn on the field/court.....just not what players are wearing nowadays.

I'm not gonna collect a jersey that is wack JUST because it's what is worn on the field. Now THAT makes no sense.

The reason we want what’s worn in the game is because it’s supposed to be better quality.

That usually means thicker fabric, full stitching, accurate patches, etc.

Thicker fabric almost always = better quality
Thinner = bad quality / weak

At least that’s how it’s perceived, and thus the change to thinner material is looked at as a step down in quality.

Man, Nike Authentic Elite jerseys are so thin smh. Why are they like this? Lol. I definitely love the heavier jerseys from Mitchell and NESs and the Reebok Authentic’s Especially, for $335 lol

We work hard for our money and these jerseys aren't cheap: $335 MSRP for retail authentic. Try the team/game issued route. The jerseys are made in USA and accurate, and the quality is amazing (eg. Thicker shell, kiss cut numbers, sewing, and even the chrome NFL shield is thicker). If you are on a budget, try buying obscure/practice squad players.

It’s hard to get game issued stuff if you aren’t very small. Most of the jerseys are very small.

Let's just say they are tighter (100% accurate if you buy game issued/worn), and made to be worn with pads. They come in many sizes and cuts.

"Weight" is a tricky measurement. We should be comparing parts of the Nike jersey to their former counterparts, not just the overall "feeling".

The fabric of the NFL jerseys now isn't "thinner" than the old, shiny mesh stuff used in the 90s-2000s. It's also comparatively durable (or better). Moreover, A huge cut in weight is from shoulder yokes changing to single layer. However, even that feature was being implemented on some gamers already- retail authentics just weren't implementing it. Same thing with stacked twill layers and kiss-cut twill layers.

That said, NFL Retail authentics are really frustrating. They did a good job improving the fit starting with the Vapor Untouchable update. Although, The factory lettering is trash now without being heat pressed beforehand with adhesive backing. Just makes the jersey flimsy, which I feel people contribute to the "weight" metric.

On-Field stuff is legit as ever.

You dont have to spell it out for me ive been collecting for nearly 25 years. We have the power as consumers to not purchase things we dont like. The perception of heavier fabrics = quality is just a fallacy perpetuated by the gatekeepers of collector culture. I used to hold the same opinion until i actually wore a flexbase jersey on a hot summer day. These are performance based garments and should be judged according to their intended use. The nike mlb jerseys were rightfully ripped for durability and coloration issues. Nfl and nba jerseys (post aeroswift) to the best of my knowledge have had no such issues
