OFFICIAL BEATMAKING / PRODUCTION THREAD Vol. New NT

Threads like these over the years helped me with honing my skills as a producer and I know we've got a lot of talented people on here. I sent some beats to Ghostface Killah's team and GFK gave me and a few others a shoutout on the production tip. I'm hoping I get to work on his future albums, but a lot of credit goes to these forums, beat battles back in the day, and mixtapes/remix albums pushing me to get better. Keep up the good work NT!
Congratulations man! That's really cool.

I'm truly happy for you.
Appreciate it Plan. You and others were (and still are) inspiring me to go harder on the music, especially with the beat battles, remix albums and NT mixtapes in the mid-to-late 2000s. I don't post as much as I used to as iceman21542, but I still check you and others on here on the production tip.

This one was buried, time to bring it back...

I figured I'd set things back off with posting a few links to sites with great sample libraries (free AND paid) - help the fam out by adding those that you may use or know about.

http://www.soundstosample.com - Sounds from all genres, drum libraries and sound effects. Everything you buy is ready for immediately download. I've purchased from here a few times, really easy process, no complaints.

http://hiphopdrumsamples.com - Dope drum libraries, specifically those compiled by celeb producers like Ski Beatz and Illmind.

http://www.goldbaby.co.nz/ - A lot of good vintage drum machine stuff; great fidelity, I use these all the time.

Hope this stuff comes in handy for everybody in the lab...

youtube made my hats sound booty af but its whatever

Glad to work with artists locally and some Wu affiliates lately, working on a current project with TIME which will be posted on Wednesday (music video tomorrow).

Have some new stuff on the soundcloud and blog (links in sig).

Good stuff ya'll.

I've always been interested in producing but as someone who's never done it before and doesn't have any musical experience where would I start?

I pretty much have the same question. Wanted to start producing in my spare time instead of watching porn and reading meaningless things lol. What would be better to start with Reason or Logic Pro? Also how long did it take you guys to actually start putting decent beats together?

I haven't used Reason or Logic so I can't speak on that.

It took me like 5 years to start consistently making music with which I was satisfied.

I didnt like reasons interface and as a newbie i feel u would get lost in logic. fl studio 10 or whatever the latest free version you can find is what u need and experiment with what kinda music you want to produced heavy saampling, trap, edm, dub step, electro, etc. Even after a couple of years you might not be making beats that you think are "dope" but they will be decent. like plan said i didnt really find my groove until i was 4-6 years into making beats. After you use sum free software if you notice you got a knack for it do sum research and upgrade accordingly. www.soundcloud.com/streetycranks

you need to stop watching so much porn and start listening to more music. even if you listen to music alot...listen more. as much as you can and the bigger the variety the better.

Hey the porn part was a joke ....... Kind of :lol but yeah when I'm not at work I'm usually listening to music. Mainly hip hop/ R&B going to start listening to other Genres though.

im probably a nymphomaniac anyway tbh

but anyway get maschine or logic 10. but if your rich get both and a mpk88 and komplete 9 ultimate

plus you have to practice to become good---i think that anybody who practice can be good at this. dont rush and record everything. i like to throw ideas out and if it sound good i play it like 100 times in a row. and if it still sounds good after all that i'll record it. patience is needed

Not rich at all (unless I hit this powerball) lol but yeah u work 3-11 pm so my plan is to practice like 1:00 a.m. - 5 a.m. Every week day and basically all day during the weekends. I really appreciate everybody helping out with the advice. Very rare you find a straight up helpful thread on here anymore :smokin

everyone i know with mashine loves it... logic might be overkill if all u do is sample... reason is perfect for that

first beat ever, any criticism/feedback would be really appreciated! except for the snare roll thing, im already changing that cuz it doesnt sound good lol
thanks :D

Call in the Shooter was nice...sounds like something Currensy would hop on.

I listen to music of ALL kinds, and I've been interested in it. Keep saying I'm going to go out , get a computer, and start really messing around with it (hobby style) I'm not trying to get rich (or famouse), really just want to maybe get to the level where I can make good music people like and want to sing and/or flow over.

expect me to frequent this thread often in the next few months.

What's a good MIDI keyboard for someone whose just starting out and dosent wanna spend a ton

anything decent is usually around 100... if u gonna actually be playing melodies ur gonna want 49 keys... check craigslist for used ones... also look for open box/clearance items at retail stores...
