Not really familiar with exercise routines but why does CrossFit get a bad rap from weight lifters?

crossfit generally gets a bad rap due to the terrible boxes that came with the boom of the "sport". there are a lot of boxes out there with coaches and trainers who have no idea what they're doing. the level 1 trainer certificate is pretty much a joke to get, and its all one really needs to be able to "coach" at their box. this typically leads to poor programming which can cause poor form and technique for members - which is what the majority see on fail youtube vids or articles against CF.

on the other hand, you have world athletes (olympic lifters) such as kendrick farris and dmitry klokov who promote the sport and recognize the benefit of it bringing people to perform barbell movements such as snatches, ckean and jerks, and other olympic lifts.

As some know already, my wife Crossfits with me. We actually encourage each other more outside of Crossfit as well from encouraging each other on the WODs.

The longest WOD i've done was Murph. That 12 days of Christmas looks dope.

they offer cross fit classes at my job (hospital) for free. Before you can attend any of the reg classes you have to go through a 6 week intro course (1.5-2 hr sessions 2x a week). I did the course about 6 months ago.. really enjoyed some aspects of it, the fact you get right in warm up and knock out a work out in under an hr (most of the time) really appealed to my work/family life. I had to give it up when i moved down to a clinic.. might have to pick up the occasional class if i get moved back. I do see the benefits of most of the workouts, but I also enjoy reg lifting/gym sessions as well.. I think being closed-minded when it comes to fitness is one of the worst mistakes you can make, and the occasional class would benefit everyone even if its just to break up the monotony of routine.

btw murph... is no joke

I think next Thanksgiving i'll give the vest a try during Murph i got a pretty good time a few months ago.

I remember the first time i walked in and saw 10k. I said "Sweet we're running 6 miles" Trainer says "Nope. On the rower"

I'll probably get into this after I finish getting to the size I want to be.

The Murph is no joke doing that @#$% for time with a 20 pound vest seems brutal :x :smokin

Today was the BEAR complex:

One rep is:

1.Power clean

2.Front squat

3.Push press

4.Back squat

5.Push press

Do 7 reps for 1 round.

Total of 5 rounds to find max weight.

I got to round 4

Don't think that you need to be a certain size/shape to do CF. Everyone starts as a beginner and you will get coached/trained to progress at your pace. Just do a little research and choose a good box. I great way to do that is to get a couple groupon/living social deals and go to a box that's convenient for you. Most that i have done and seen are $20-$50 for either a month of unlimited classes or for 12 classes.

Wanted to post a vid with Bear Complex variation but can't post directly from my device, :/

Left is the Bear Complex with a low catch on the Clean, so it kind of looks like a Thruster. Don't like doing them this way because I feel like you cheat the Front Squat and Push Press. However, it helps me get deeper.

Right is a high catch, legit front squat and a pause before the push press.

This was a while back, worked on form and mobility since. First thing I noticed when I saw the video is my knees where too far out front, been doing mobility work to help me "sit" when going deep without leaning forward. Harder than it looks/seems.
