How is playing in the midfield an experiment?

I think trying a different setup from last season’s winning formula with him at the tip of the diamond is fair to call an experiment. We started with 4-3-3 and then played a 3-5-2 last match but it still wasn’t the diamond with him at the top and making those late runs into the box and also at times staying up top waiting to help lead the counter.

Ofc if you want to focus the headline on just Bellingham and say him specifically playing a deeper midfield role like he did in BVB and I believe has done for England is an experiment then you’re right it’s not really an experimental role for him.

But for RM as a collective Carlo has been playing with the set up and for Jude specifically in his RM tenure these have been different roles for him from last season.

Edit: wait I see why this is making rounds in fcb twitter from the comments. It’s clear your fan base doesn’t watch him play. Dude is a force in midfield offensively and defensively. The problem is our offense hasn’t been flowing and he’s gifted enough to potentially help us there too while players like Fede Tchouameni and Camavinga can play deeper (but are not capable of also excelling as a 10.)

I think the experiment aspect applies to Saturday's formation, and that tweet has an over dramatic tone to it.

You could played a real 3-4-3, with no Lucas Vazquez
