If you take his 22/23 season and put it against Vini this past year it’s a different story. But his 23/24 season vs Vini’s is a no-brainer. This man was not the best player on any team he played for. Not even among the best in the CL or EPL. Did not stand out for Spain, yet he’s the bdo.

And if you don’t want to go with the best and your criteria is the most decorated that excelled in his position and actually showed up in big matches then Carvajal was the choice. There is literally no criteria to give it to Rodri under.

So him not being city’s POTY and him not being nominated for EPL player of the year and CL TOTS can be taken at face value but him winning POTT at the euros can’t be? If we making a straw man argument that’s a disingenuous one.

His 23/24 season was fantastic he still played at an elite level for club and country and was a key player in two important titles. If you only defining standout as goals sure he didn’t stand out in that way but his play and what he does always stands out if we being honest. Caravjal deserved a top 3 finish imo but we can’t go all year arguing Vini and Jude then when it’s not them going but what about the guy no one made a case for winning till yesterday. No one was spending the season saying caravjal was playing like one of the best players in the world that is always a discussion with rodri.

Vini and rodri both had great arguments both would be worthy winners im not or would ever try to diminish Vini argument cause it would be disingenuous. This isn’t the days of Messi and Ronaldo being clear cut winners and everyone else playing for second. Especially in a year where one person in contention underperformed and didn’t go far for their country and the other did, on the other hand one did perform and go far in champions league and the other performed but didn’t go far. He literally has such pedestrian counting numbers as an attacking mid. Meanwhile Rodri has better counting stats as a defensive mid.

He was the second best player on that Madrid team is just bias to justify his award cause I could make an argument for a number of other players on that team. He got to the final of the World Cup by getting an easy draw and winning multiple games on lucky PK’s, if those PK’s go another way he’s not even in the B’allon D’or convo.

I would have voted for Vini but the idea that Rodri isn’t an all-time midfielder who has been performing at an amazing level the past two years is stupid. Won the prem, won the Euro’s, and the best player in his position by FAR. Like it’s not really close between him and whoever else you want to put in the top DM positions.

It sucks that it seems like this was done to punish RM (FIFA corruption for you) but Rodri is very deserving and giving it to a DM is fine especially one who is so far ahead of his class as Rodri is.

Classifying Modric as an attacking mid invalidates anything you wrote here, there's no way you watched Modric's work rate, pressing, press resistance, creativity during that time and didn't think he was second best player on that team.

He has 0 cause his chance he was stuck behind 2 aliens for a decade+ like everyone else. The only reason Iniesta, Xavi, Neuer and a bunch of other guys don’t have one is cause Messi the goat and Ronaldo top 3. Ronaldo had 44 goals the distance between him and whoever was 2nd, was such a large gulf. Bale put in 21, Benz had more assists than Modric as a striker.

Why is Rodri winning such a scandal? I mean yeah I expected Vini to win as well, but I can see the logic behind why Rodri won. Rodri winning brings up the question of why Iniesta, Sneijder, etc. didn’t win back in the day, but that’s not the point.
